Windows Update wants to install KB5001716

KB5001716 just appeared on my Windows Update list. It is an old update. I am wondering why it has popped up at this time. I am on Windows 10 22H2 (Build 19045.3448) and am current with all 22H2 updates. It seems to be an update to Windows Update and "includes a new user interface (UI) functionality for Windows Update". Do I need to install this?

This may give you information that may help for Windows 10, Version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and 22H2:

    > KB5001716: Update for Windows Update Service Components

    I hope this helps.

I saw that page but am wondering why I am getting this now and if everyone is getting it. It seems to imply that it will get updates for systems that have reached EOL. 22H2 is two years from that. One other strange item it mentions is that it might notify you that "your device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for the currently installed version of Windows". Is this a notice for people who have upgraded to Windows 11 even though their system was not compatible with it?

    John,

Why are you calling it old?
The linked article that Paul posted for you says that its en-us version was issued on 28th September 2023.
I've just checked for updates and KB5001716 is listed for me aswell. My updates list says it was issued on 3rd October 2023 [for all I know, that's because mine is en-gb].

Normally, if you search the TenForums News section, you'll find info on each update but, for reasons that I do not know, there is no article about KB5001716. @Brink - Can you comment?

    All the best,

    OK,

I did not go down to the bottom to see the additional information.

    Thanks

It looks like it was just a minor servicing update.

I ran the update. It appears that it might have changed the message in Windows Update referring to the fact that my system is not capable of updating to Windows 11. I remember a slightly longer message. This is what I get now.

I have received that update also. They sometimes use the same KB number for updates that supersede the previous updates that were released. I can find a reference to an old update here:

Then I can also find a reference to the same KB number in 2021.

I have gotten this also. Just wondering if anyone is seeing errors in event viewer because I have a couple under event kernel tracing?
