latest Windows update slows everything down even more

    Hello,

I'm using a laptop and running Windows 10Home Version 22H2
    OS build 19045.3448
Since last week's update, everything in my windows is slow!
I did a cleanup in ccleaner and still didn't help.
Even shutting down takes some seconds instead of doing it immediately
Browser is also slow, same with even basic stuff like bringing up the calculator any programs like word , etc

The updates keep breaking something or maybe installs some bloatware I'm not aware of.
I checked my task manager - also took many seconds to come up CPU is 24% and memory 53%
Is there some bloatware or useless process the update installed I can get rid of ?

    thanks in advance.

There is a lot you can do to troubleshoot this, but let's start with the obvious items:

What apps are showing the highest utilization when you looked at them in Task Manager?

Hi, which is 'last week's update' for you? Presumably KB5030211.
    KB5030211 Windows 10 Cumulative Update Build 19045.3448 (22H2)

    - feel free to read the comments under that.

I've seen a couple of people report searching in Settings is slow after it, but not that Windows is generally slow.

Suggest as an elementary matter of routine you check your disk:
Hard Disk Sentinel (giveaway recently available, otherwise functional trial, covers SSDs) - excellent- instant report on GUI.

How much free space do you have on C: ?

Try uninstalling the update. Is performance back to normal?

I just found out its Microsoft has probably been probing my PC to "persuade" me to upgrade to the crapware Windows 11 which still gives me nightmares. Huge splash screen to ask me to upgrade which is horrible. I had to reboot a few times to get back to my normal screen. I declined because that Win11 software is dangerous and carefully clicked "stay on Windows 10" . A bit better now but still some nagging slowness. Is there some way to stop Microsoft from nagging me to upgrade to that horrible Windows11 ? I guess this will stop the slowness , but I really don't want to mess around with the registry.

And thank you for your reply.

I don't see why what you suggest is slowing your PC.

You will find the standard way to prevent the upgrade notification is to set the 'target feature upgrade'

Simply search the Tutorials section for that.

ok thank you. will do that

in the meantime , my PC is still very slow. my C: has lots of space. more than 400GB. And with nothing running , it takes many seconds to open file explorer. same with shutting down when it should be immediate. Opening any of my browsers somehow takes even longer. Going to a site just spins for 5mins trying to get there. My internet is really fast. This is very annoying. For everything I click or try to run , Windows makes me wait. Microsoft Windows seem to have broken something! Or some probably some process that slowing things down? Is there some windows process or service that is "useless" I can disable or uninstall ?

Am I the only one having this same issue ?
    thanks again in advance.

Hi, you said this has been happening since a particular update.

To prove that that is so, I suggested you uninstall the update and see what happens.

If you still have problems having done that, then please start by logging in, waiting about 3 minutes, then post 1 or more screenshots of your task manager showing resource usage, organising columns of interest high to low by clicking on the appropriate column header.

Check your disk(s). Get a copy of Hard Disk Sentinel (portable version available) and run that- look at its GUI for each disk. If not ok, post a screenshot. Advise if all pass.

If ok, from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
Look at the end of the report- is all ok?

    If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW.
Look at the end of the report- is all ok?

Are page file settings still as default?

    Thanks.

latest Windows update slows everything down even more-pagenotresponding.png

p.s. for one of my my browsers - I am using Edge here , I try to access youtube with nothing else on that browser and it has this anoyying popup "page is not responding" for 5 minutes and makes me wait . After youtube comes up after 5mins then it works as normal. It does this for every site.... this is one of the many things that slowed down since the last damned Windows update. please any suggestions ?

again...preferably some process or service that is "useless" I can safely disable or uninstall...and hopefully fixes this issue and hopefully future damned updates don't secretly install which is also some windows "spyware" or "slowware"

    thanks again.

it seems like suddenly everything is fine now. seems to "fix itself" waited for some days to make sure that was consistent. But thanks for the suggestions. possibly some quirks of Windows. So I'm closing this thread.

Everytime you start windows check the Task Manager to see what is being loaded/worked on. We do not want to have virus summoning more it's kind now do we?

ShutupWindows10. Go get it and apply as many things you need to apply.
Windows will startup telemetry when you install specific programs. It will shut it self off. Sometimes

Task Manager ( startup items ) - That being said checkout alternatives for this.
    Group Policy Editor
    Task Scheduler
    Services.msc
Regedit ( before messing with this make a backup however that is done )
    Turning off Automatic Updates.
Allowing Windows defender to scan but take no action.
Editing the HOST file ( which is also featured in Android and OSX ) with a decent enough list. Some things you have to let through in order to function ( again silence is golden ).
Clear your DNS cache ( in fact their is a way to prevent your DNS from being broadcasted to your ISP or whatever that is ).

Using a no-script-filter in your browser. Because these wreck havoc.
Turning off the feature in firefox that refreshes ( downloads over and over ) a webpage thus creating ware on your drive.
