Windows Update Cleanup: How safe to run from settings?

    Hello:

    Windows 10 Version: 22H2

I went to Settings-->Storage and it shows I can clear out over 5 Gigs storage space by doing Windows Update Cleanup

I am up to date with my Windows Update

    QUESTION:

Is there any downside to simply deleting those? Might I actually need those for some reason?

    Thanks:

I routinely do a Windows Update clean up after each month's new Cumulative Update. The only possible reason to keep them would be if you wanted to uninstall a Cumulative Update.

Windows Update Cleanup: When you install updates from Windows Update, Windows keeps older versions of the system files around. This allows you to uninstall the updates later. However, if you don't plan on ever uninstalling any Windows updates, this is a waste of space. This is safe to delete as long as your computer is working properly and you don't plan on uninstalling any updates.
