Start Menu Update Notification

Your PC, as you know, has downloaded an update. The easiest thing is to accept that- why not? Assuming you have 22H2 (build unstated despite forum prompt) no dramatic changes should occur before Win 10 reaches EOL.

I note you have Pro. If you wished to control when updates are downloaded and applied, use group policy to set updates to Notify.

No update would occur unless you approved it.

Otherwise search for e.g.
'cancel pending update'

Not the sort of thing that deals with, I'm afraid. At best it offers an option to disable WU altogether.

With an update downloaded and ready to be installed..

As for clearing the pending update- I've given you links for that which include what you describe.

It's your PC. If you wish to block Windows Update altogether you can of course. It's your choice.

But why? - MS isn't making any major changes now- Win 10 ends support in Oct 25 and I've read there won't be another major update. Well, we'll see.

With WU disabled you can't use the Store.

What do you fear? Let the update proceed. Do you actually KNOW any problem it will create?
Once the update has happened, if you don't want it, you could
- use a Sytem Restore point to reverse it
- uninstall it


Again as I said, once you've dealt with this update, my recommendation is to set updates to 'Notify'. Thsi means, as I said, no update-related download or update occurs unless you respond to the notification and approve it.

To be 100% clear- with that set, you won't see the notification you dislike unless you approve the download and update
