Windows 10 Pro is NOT updating

    Ok doke.

Here is my situation: I have an old Windows 10 Pro (I found this out from reading your forums regarding the .NET Framework 4.8 not being recognized).

After reading your posts, I have updated the BIOS, Chipset, Bluetooth, Wifi, Audio Drivers, Video Card, and USB drivers.

Windows is still stuck at v1511, OS Build 10586.0 and will not update. Don't even get me started on Microsoft's Help Center - it is like reading the ol' stereo instructions in Greek.

    Suggestions?

Hi, very little information to go on.
    1. I assume the PC in question is not the one in your specs... or is it? The MOBO seems too recent.
If so, please supply details, together with its driver download page URL. About how old is it?

    2. What is the exact message you receive?

    3. Is it trying to update or upgrade? Nothing on which update or upgrade is failing.

    4. How are you trying to update? Is that normally using Windows Update? Or manually by some other means?

    5. Need to know you've covered the basics of checking the system's integrity.

    Once again:
    Disk check (3rd party program)
    If ok run
    chkdsk C: /scan
    If ok run
    SFC /SCANNOW

Advise if these pass- don't upload big logs. Thanks.

    6. What security programs are you running?

    7. What's the history- has the PC simply been stored, or was Windows Update disabled somehow?

    8. How much free space is there on C: ?

9: Post a screenshot of all partitions using a 3rd party partition manager (Minitool Partition Wizard).

Note that upgrade failures especially from such an old build are next to impossible to diagnose.

You can read log files, but they are non-prescriptive.

Let's see where we go from there. Thanks.

If I don't feel like someone who has never seen a computer before. Sheesh. I did not even THINK about attempting to update Windows 10 from an outside source. After all day of restarts, updates, and whatnot, I finally have my Windows 10 Pro v 19045.2846.

Thank you for smacking me upside my noggin.

Happy to hear you found a way forward.. upgrading using an iso file and NOT accepting updates as part of the procedure sometimes helps, and then there's the MS update assistant...
