    Delete a partial /incomplete update

I have a laptop i use primarily offline just to run trainerroad workouts for my kickr bike. I transfer all my data via usb.

Somehow the laptop went online and started an update. i went offline mid update and now whenever i try to restart it tries to finish then fails ......."we couldn't complete the updates".....

The last time i had an update from windows it caused issues and I do not want any updates ever. at least while i use it as i am.

Is there any way to delete this partial update ? last resort i suppose is to let it update then delete it and remove the wify card in the laptop

Stay offline, run this batch file
    Reset Windows Update - TenForumsTutorials
    - Do note that this batch file caters for a lot of different configuration so, if you watch it, you will see error messages when it tries to delete files that your configuration does not have. You do not need to worry about them.
    - You might have seen other 'reset WU' scripts in the past. This one is the best.
    - The partial update will get cleaned out by this action.
    - I always shutdown then start my computer again after using this batch file.
    - Then you can go online again.

If you want to avoid updates on this computer in the future, set its network connections to 'metered'. One inconsequential update, KB4023057, slips through this [once or sometimes twice a year].
Set Wireless Network Metered Connection - TenForumsTutorials
Set Ethernet Connection as Metered - TenForumsTutorials
This is my Registry key after applying this. All network connections are metered including the default i.e. all future WiFi networks that I might connect to.

I am all set on this laptop., ( i think)

I am wondering about setting a metered connection on my desktop/workstation and how it might affect other programs ?
Is there a way to tell if a particular program is affected ? or/and a way to make exceptions for particular programs ?

I am a stock trader and have 2 primary programs running that i set high priority too and I would not want these programs to be adversely affected by a metered connection in any way.

    thanks again

The only application that I know gets affected is MSOffice Outlook [2016+]. It deliberately checks the metered setting and refuses to check email automatically if the connection is metered.
I know of nothing else that gets affected.
I've been using metered status for about nine years and have never found anything else that it affects.

Your stock trading applications could only be affected if they too deliberately checked for metered status.
And I cannot imagine why they would be at all interested.
The change to & from metered status is so quick & easy that I suggest you could just try it & see.
I would be astounded if it interrupted your stock trading comms.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    The tutorial
Set Ethernet Connection as Metered - TenForumsTutorials
guides you through changing the necessary permissions before changing the values themselves.

It looks to me as though you skipped one or more of those steps - Option 2 Steps 1-6.
