    Where did the settings go?

    Hi
    a easy fast question.
I just installed win10pro h22 in a VM as i have not used windows since win7 and win8.1 is now EOL

I did test win10 back in 2015 or 16.. I remember under updates and advanced settings you could pause software updates up to 365Days and security updates up to 15 or 30days.

So the short question is..... where have they hidden that setting now?
as everyone knows, you should pause updates at least 4-5days to avoid bad updates... as they pull back bad updates within a few days.

We have a new method these days, courtesy of @Brink.

You can "watch" as others take the plunge.

    And ofc, there's always this...

It has all changed now - feature updates are optional, security ones are still mandatory. You are only required to update after 18 months.

"as everyone knows, you should pause updates at least 4-5days to avoid bad updates... as they pull back bad updates within a few days." - Nope. Best approach is to make an image backup of pc, upgrade and revert if any issues.

It is very rare these days that updates are withdrawn as they are tested a couple of weeks earlier in the Release Preview Ring.

In any case, Windows 10 only gets security updates anyway now. It only has a couple of years left before it is EOL.

As you have Pro, you can use the Group Policy Editor to set updates to 'Notify'.

That way you - yes- are notified of available updates- which are only applied when you accept them.

That way you never get an unexpected restart (also see Active Hours).

I also choose to not allow Preview updates- again using Group Policy.

As for simple questions on usage- do try the huge searchable Tutorials section (see - yes- Tutorials at the top).

    E.g. I searched for 'pause updates' :

    Okay.. so the answer is
There is no way to pause software updates the GUI way but still get security updates.
So then i have to solve it thru registry or policy
    Thanks

    Unclear.

If by 'software updates' you mean updates to programs you choose to install...
    - there are two basic types.

    a. apps installed from the Store- which have their own update schedule

    b. any programs you've downloaded and installed.

If you have Pro - the best and simplest way is to use Group Policy.
