New Windows 10 update

Hmm, if you've blocked Windows Updates successfully, by definition they can't affect you...
But I agree about choice and timing... hence Group Policy = 'Notify'.

Given Win 10's nearing end of service life, hopefully the risk of MS making another major mess of things is relatively low now... maybe!

Yes, there was a lot of suspicion when KB4023057 was first introduced that its aim was to block Windows update evasion / avoidance.

I evade WU running automatically by setting all my network connections to be "metered".
- MS reserved the right to install [undefined] security-related updates despite the metered setting but, in all the years, KB4023057 has been the only one that has slipped through.

I am not particularly fussed about KB4023057 slipping through. My only concern has been to make sure I can make a new system image before I install any updates.
- I have to accept that KB4023057 might disrupt my computer beforehand forcing me to revert to an earlier month's image but that problem has never occurred.
- I've also always had to accept that WD updates might be catastrophic but that has not happened either.

I was alerted to it by having Notify set in Group Policy as usual. (Not available to Home users of course).

Since the demise of adequate inhouse quality testing of these updates, many of us prefer to ignore any of Microsoft's own deferment tools and, instead, rely on our own judgement when it is safe to update. However, it's a personal choice.

OK.I amn't that cynical . Usually after an update, I pause updates to the maximum possible extent and resume updates only after seeing it notified in Windows 10 News. Also I do create a manual system restore point after running sfc and DISM once every three or four days. In the event some update creates problems, (but that has never happened - may be I am not a voracious computer user), I can always restore the system to the last restore point lock stock and barrel. My system restores never failed on me to this day though many say that system restore is not dependable..

I do have a licenced version of Macrium Reflect 8. But the problem with my system is, it has Intel Optane and I have to disable it before taking a backup. Once I disable it, my Computer works on only 4GB RAM and becomes painfully slow . Disabling Optane , taking the backup and then enablng Optane, it makes about a 2 hour struggle. So I do only a monthly backup in the second fortnight of every month. I haven't done the backup this month still..

SR complements disk imaging nicely ... and it can suddenly decide to sulk when restoring - happened once for a few months.

Why uninstall it?
