KB5021089 keeps failing to update for weeks

Its Jan 17 2023 and since Dec 16 2022 Win 10 KB5021089 Cumulative Update for 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 22H2 fails to install over and over no matter what I do including the 'retry' action . The error code is OX80073712. I also keep getting the 'getting windows ready' window when booting up which sometimes clears itself but update still fails. . I tried several thing including troubleshooters and then went to the update catalog and manually downloaded the exact update for my 64 bit system. I get message that this update is not applicable for my system. JEEZ....what am I supposed to do? Its hosing up my boot up process constantly and other issues are popping up. Really need some advice/assistance and thanks in advance. Its driving me nuts.

    Edition Windows 10 Home
    Version 22H2
    Installed on ‎4/‎12/‎2022
    OS build 19045.2486
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

You may try from Microsoft®Update Catalog

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=KB5021089

..or try the tips in this article

    This is the update
    KB5021089 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8, and 4.8.1

    If post #2 doesn't help..

    First try:
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Simply searching for your error number =>
    http://hs.windows.microsoft.com/hhwe...-099ae7939d23/

which gives some things to try.

Ultimately you can, or course, consider an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data
Google MS media creation tool. This will give you an iso file for the latest major build
Use that to download an iso file.
Rt click iso file, click Mount
    Open new drive letter created
    Double click setup.exe.

Failing updates will unfortunately repeat in this manner by default, unless you take measures to take control.

Thanks but I mentioned in my post that I went to the Catalog and downloaded the update but it said it was not applicable for my system. That put me into a tailspin as to what to do about this.

I have NetFramework 4.8 and when I had 21H2 the NetFramework updates installed just fine...here is the last one I got...
    October 11, 2022- KB5018545 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 21H2.
22H2 was installed on Nov 28 2022 and KB5021089 Cumulative is the first Net Framework update it has tried to install since 22H2 installed.

Like dalchina states, do an in-place upgrade repair install keeping all progs and data with the latest build, and save yourself all the faffing around, it'll be over and done with in less than 30 mins. This solves 99% of the problems I have had with win10.

Thank you ! I need to buy a larger flash drive to capture the repair media and need to get this done.

Good to have those around with recovery media of 2 or 3 kinds.. but not necessary for this- you can download the iso file to your internal disk.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

So thats all I have to do and just run it from that file on my hard drive?
