If you have taken the advice, endlessly offered, to use 3rd party disk imaging regularly and routinely you will already have a set of image files (e.g. full and differential) so you can restore your PC from many problem situations even if your system disk fails, your PC is unbootable, or even potentially to a new PC should your PC be stolen or destroyed.

Normally it's a safe procedure; any upgrade can fail of course. Failure usually results in an error message and leaves you back where you were.

I've posted 4 step simple instructions many many times here.

Are the 4 step instructions the ones you gave me earlier? If not please point me to them.

I have a Windows Recovery disk but thats all. Never had to use it. My current pc came loaded with Win 10 of course and never had a problem I couldn't deal with until the failing update issue which made me realize that things have been wonky in other areas for a while. Freezing up/black screen/browsers non responsive or lock up all the time (all of them)/ non responsive Outlook,...blah blah blah

And thank you so much for your reply. Yes.

If you haven't started using disk imaging yet... why not? A Windows recovery disk won't help you if your syste, disk fails or your PC is affected by ransomware, malware or some irrecoverable malware etc etc.

There was a similar update a month later, did you get it? Maybe that's blocking the older one?

I used to be nervous about this sort of thing....that was way back in the Vistax64 days ( I loved Vista ). But, now....if you have back-ups of your personal files, what's the worst that can happen? You have to clean install OS and reinstall your programs and then put back your personal files. Only a few hours of work at the most.

For my project workstation, I have learned the importance of layered back-ups. I have a dedicated 240GB OS/programs drive and loads of SSD's for projects. If the O/S needs re-installing, the hit is minimal.

The OP will be fine with the windows in-place install, it hasn't failed me to date. But, it is always very good practice to have back-ups.

WELL....THE Net Framework update ending in1089 that has been failing since 12/13/2022 has disappeared from the list and the new one you gave me has failed. This is getting insane.

Edit: I tried to install as standalone file from catalog and it failed too.

Have you done an in-place upgrade repair install or not?

Have not done the in place upgrade repair yet. Need clarification of something.......I will back up my personal files BUT do I have to re-install all my apps/programs including my precious Office 2016 and Outlook? OH MY GOD.

I sure hope the apps/programs don't disappear because I really need to put on my big girl pants, bite the bullet and do this repair. So many Win10 things are wonky and have been for months.

I don't see anything in bold but I certainly did not mean to appear to be blaspheming. I think you meant that I spelled out OMG but it was not meant to offend.
