Ironically, the only malware I got was a program called Outbytes Pc Repair , suggested by Microsoft!
That program was not suggested by Microsoft.

    how to stop them?
Do both these steps to stop them:
1 As I said before, set all your network connections to be metered ones***.
2 Reset WU in order to remove the currently detected & initiated updates. Reset Windows Update - TenForumsTutorials

*** I get one minor update sneaking through a year. And it does not exist for your Windows version so it would not affect you.

I do not see any logic in your deliberately staying on an out-of-support Windows version.

I find this interesting as my system only gets updates when I allow them. I have WU paused and NOTHING updates until I unpause WU. But then, I am on a current build.

Checked the Software Distribution folder and it contains only the last updates that were done when I unpaused WU on 12/15/2022.
