    Trouble getting update to install

    Version 21H2 OS Biuld 19044.2006

22-9 KB1517308 installed OK but for the second month 22-8 KB 5012170 fails to install with an error code 0x800f0922

I tried the trouble shooter for updates and it said all was OK I run the disk cleanup on my “C” drive and that did not help. I run SFC/Scannow in safe mode and that did do not fix the problem, I run the anti-virus on the entire “C” drive and again this did not help. The Widows Ready Service is OK. I emptied the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistrubtion\ Download and this did not help. Next I emptied the download folder again and disabled my A/V .
Is the KB 0x800f0922 update giving anyone else a problem”

    Any ideas?

    hello @rfrharbin,

As a start, Copy & Paste the following commands into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

Also, have a look at this => How to Reset Windows Update in Windows 10, and then try uninstalling again if it is still there.

Also, have a look at the Related Tutorials at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial, as they may also be useful.

    I hope this helps.

    • My KB5017308 has been failing to install for the past few months.
    • There's also the Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H2 (I cannot get the KB number of this one at this moment in time). This one has always been failing to install on my computer as well.

I have dealt with exactly this problem a couple of times. Feel free to find those threads by searching for error and KB number.

There are actually 2 updates involved. It may well be that the error is report against the WRONG KB number.

You can find out which fails by pausing Windows Update and using e.g.
WUMGR or WUMT (free) - scan for updates and apply each separately.

As you will see from the item in the NEWS section of tenforums (and as I have detailed in a previous thread on this)
KB 5012170 has potential failure modes known to MS.

Finally an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data can be used to resolve error 0x800f0922.

Whilst detailed time comsuming analysis could identify the exact issue, the in-place repair install is much more expedient.

    Wow those Reply's were fast.
This morning I Viewed my Update history out of curiosity and there is an entry showing KB 512170 as Successfully installed on 9/15/2022 before the failures.
I have OS build 19044.2006 therefor KB 5017308 installed OK. So I will do the DISM Update Repair. I did not try this before posting since I just did the upgrade repair several weeks ago after getting my computer back from the shop getting a new case and a one tetra SSD.
I will post back later when thee computer is fixed.........thanks all.

Actually, as a matter of fact, by coincidence, the Feature Update (Windows 10, version 21H2) happened to install on the same day as my previous post (9/16/2022),
and in the Installed Updates window, I find that KB5017308 was installed as well, on the same day.
