Insanely slow windows 10 update download speed

I have no idea what’s wrong, but for whatever reason my windows 10 monthly update is downloading at a vastly slower rate, typically in kB/s on two different devices. My net is not behaving slow at the moment, and yet I’ve sat here for over half an hour now waiting for an update. My PC was fine last month but my laptop was slow to download the updates, and now both are slow.

Any help? Or is this just an issue with Microsoft’s download servers?

Edit: It’s started to get a little faster now, now averaging over 1 Mbps. Is this just Microsoft being crappy perhaps?

Ah, well, disregard now. I restarted my devices and the updates are downloading at the proper speed now. Please lock.

As an alternative to using Windows update, you could simply manually download the updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog and then install them manually when you are ready to do so.

I will consider that in the future maybe, but for now I'll just wait and see with normal WU. I ran sfc /scannow to look for corrupted files, so now I'll have to wait a month to see if it was effective.

I often experience this as well.
I think it's the MS servers being overloaded because everything else behaves normally.

I download my updates manually first thing in the morning while the Yanks are asleep to avoid slow download speeds.
I use the direct MSUpdateCatalog download links provided in the TenForums News section - there's a thread containing a direct download link for every update.

    All the best,
