    Auto/Manual install updates

    hi all

i have 2 win10 machines, all specs in album but not necessary for this query, when one machine updates it downloads and installs without needing to intervene but on the the other machine it will download and wait for me to click INSTALL button.

now for the life of me i know or knew where this setting was to change this behavior, basically i would like to control when to install on both machines not auto install.

could someone please refresh me as to where i found this setting previously..??

    cheers
    Rob

it was actually for this machine, my main one with specs in sig, Home

the other machine that prompts me to install is also Home but thats how i want this one.

they both download without prompt which is fine but if i can change that to prompt for download & install on both that would be good also.

i dont want to disable updates just control the download and install process

    thanks
    Rob

Maybe that's the equivalent of 'Notify' in Pro via group policy.

    E.g.
Configure Windows 10 to Prompt for Update Installs

As you don't have the Group Policy editor, a registry tweak or 3rd party tool to do the same would be required.

You could try using Policy Plus (free group policy editor with useful find feature) - note - no guarantee all policies are available or can be applied in Home. This can be readily removed if necessary.

Do NOT try installing the Group Policy Editor from Pro in Home (there are sites that offer this).

Tools like Windows Automatic Update Manager and WUmgr appear to offer related options, but I've only ever used these to scan for updates on occasion. Supposed to be intuitive.

i did find that site/link you provided but that AU key/string/dword isnt even there so i'm not going to start adding new values etc etc, its not that big of a deal, i do have registry backed up either way.

the Policy Plus thing i have seen before which i wasnt to interested in either.

i did have WUmgr (portable) a while back when i was paranoid getting updated to Win11 but have since got over that fear and dont use it anymore, since a few updates a go that app didnt stop all the update modules so a waste of time in my view, i did edit registry to update no further than nominated version ie 21H2 any platform which i have since deleted in registry.

its all good @dalchina i can live with how it is at the moment i'm pretty much not into all the tweaking and mods anymore as i cant keep track of what i've done. if it was as easy as it is in Group Policy Editor it was a no brainer.

thanks for your help and efforts much appreciated

You're welcome... you could, of course, upgrade to Pro...

Or disable WU and use a 3rd party tool...

    @dalchina

i caved in and just added the entries into registry, it was only 2 keys and a dword value so all is good in the hood.

    thanks
