    Opting out of beta/optional updates

I have a laptop running Windows 10 Home Single Language, version 21H2, 19044.1865, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0.

Yesterday or day before, I installed an optional update. Don't remember which update was it. Have I now entered a scenario in which I will be obtaining further optional updates automatically?

I want to stay away from optional updates. How can I do it?

Just do not install them (by definition they are optional).

Yes. I barely ever install them. What I'm asking is, have I become a permanent beta tester now and I will be forced to install the beta updates or I will be asked to install beta updates and only after my permission they will get installed?

As you know, there are preview updates, and there are optional updates. These are different things.

If you have Pro you can choose never to receive preview updates via Group Policy... but you have Home.

Sometimes the equivalent registry change can be made in Home.. I don't know and can't try that as both mine are Pro.

    You could experiment using
Policy Plus (free) - a free group policy editor you can use on Home, with a useful Find feature.
    Search for 'preview'

I have windows group policy editor. Last month I installed it separately from Major Geeks website I think.

I searched for 'preview' in Policy Plus. Found two entries related to preview updates in Windows. I disabled them.

Is there anything else I need to do?

Should be fine- if that works on Home.
I think I've seen posts related to problems following adding the g.p.editor to Home... you can check. Hope that's readily reversible.

Here are a couple more I use- no guarantees for Home- I think 1 won't.

Okay. The first screenshot in your post mentions 'software notifications'. They are related to windows update only?

No. Each optional update offered to a PC with a normal retail install is a 'one-off' choice. You'll only install one if you deliberately choose to do so.

The only way you'd ever get Beta updates automatically is if you had chosen to sign up and join the Insiders program. That's not something you'd do by accident, just by installing an optional update.

Thanks! That's quite relieving to know. :)
