@Morku -
I wish there was a (easy) way to block their upgrade notifications.
Sometimes, no solution is better than a way to wreck your file system.
Can’t you just ignore it?
@syntoh
On that key I have 21H2 (the current installed build) and UNV, but no CO21H2 key.
I checked on another system where settings-win.data.microsoft.com is still blocked and no Windows 11 Ad is displayed. Both folders already exist. -> they are not created by the Ad.
I deleted (with backup) 21H2 anyway and reboot the systerm. Still the Ad "prepare for Windows 11".
Regarding to general opinion here, seems like there is no official way. I continue block settings-win.data.microsoft.com (it does not block Windows Update or Feature updates)
Bummer, since it is unknown what else this DNS request is for.
Thank you for all.
What happens if you click the X after Check hardware requirements?
Sorry, I forgot you'd already said, "When I X click the banner, it just moves to the right."
Yes, but only if you have 10 Pro, this policy is ignored in 10 Home. You set a target feature update version. Once you have set the target version the message in Windows Update should disappear the next time your PC checks for updates. Setting it to 21H2, the current version of Windows 10, should prevent the message about Windows 11 appearing. Or you could try setting it to whatever version of W10 you are running.
How to Specify Target Feature Update Version in Windows 10
@Bree
No screenshot of yours looks like mine. No, my system has not been checked for W11 compatibility as the screenshot imply. The screenshot offers me to do (like the very first step). "Hardwareanforderungen prüfen" (= "Check for Hardware requirements") When I click the URL, the page https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/windows/windows-11 will be loaded.
Your screenshots are like the next step, that HW already checked.
Of course I don't want my HW to be checked and maybe it doesn't do in background, because I use Enterprise with disabled Telemetry etc.
I have tested the target Feature Update policy and can confirm. After set, the Windows 11 Ad is gone.
But this will lock my Windows 10 to a specific target Feature version, as the policy is made for. As we already know, a 22H2 is comming for Windows 10. Maybe 23H2...
I was curious, I blocked again settings-win.data.microsoft.com, rebooted, reverted the policy and the Windows 11 Ad recovered. Conclusion = Windows hide the information, but it's still there. No problem of course.
Also I tried to enter "Windows 10" in Windows product and leave Target Version empty, so that I get all future Windows 10 feature updates and don't get a Windows 11 Ad.
Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I need to enter a Target Version.
What version of Enterprise do you have? Your profile specs say 1511. The target version group policy requires version.1803 or later.
No, it hasn't yet. If or when windows does run the compatibility checks then the 'advert' should change to one of the messages in my first two screenshots ,either the one with the green tick saying it is compatible, or the red cross saying it isn't.No screenshot of yours looks like mine. No, my system has not been checked for W11 compatibility as the screenshot imply.
Oh, because I never updated my profile after created. I use 21H2 Enterprise.
