I have never installed Ventoy on a hard drive. Try installing Ventoy on a flash drive. My Ventoy flash drive works perfectly. I am now running Windows PE from my Ventoy flash drive.

It is the last thing you should do. For the time being, just play with the ISO files.
i'm pretty much done here, i tried all the things you suggested but whether it be my inexperience or something else ii dont know.

i did a full factory reset again and am going to leave it that, every time i do updates it does nothing but screw up my system and takes over 12 hours to go nowhere, i've permanently disabled updates, Wu10Man 4.4.0, and will run with what i've got.

i've got 2 windows 7 computers, and 2 windows 10 computers so anything i need to do i've got covered anyways, i also refer to BLACK VIPERS services guide to tweak it a little bit for (safe config) services not required. i have a good antivirus program, NOD32, and very particular when it comes to security measures.

    thanks again you're a legend.

    Rob,

I do not know why you are not simply looking at booting Windows normally then using the ISO file you've downloaded to do a Repair install [aka In-place upgrade] procedure.
    Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials
    - I understand you've already made a system image and I suggest you also make a new one afterwards.

That will update you to v21H2 and almost certainly fix your WU problem.

    All the best,

    hi there @Try3

since this thread i've reset the PC to factory and left it that way which fixed the original error code 5 problem but after doing that i tried to update again but it failed numerous times and have reset each time because it just scrambles the machine.

i've downloaded numerous ISO files from that TECHBENCH link in this thread both 1909 and 21h2 and used RUFUS to make them A bootable media UEFI system which mine is

i'm still trying to learn how to use them and install over current system but still not confident enough to do it just yet, even as far as using the restore image.

i'll check out that link you provided and when i feel i'm right to go ahead i'll certainly get back with an update on both windows update and how i went.

    thanks mate

    Rob

that wasnt a problem, you did your best to assist me and for that i was extremely grateful , your suggestions didnt work but so many other suggestions from other posts didnt work either so no one failed me its just an issue i'm going to have to work through and sort out.

i might even be the problem so i'm certainly not blaming or judging others and am very grateful to anyone that tries to help me whether it works or not, i'll get there and more than likely not on my own because i'm just not that comp literate, i know quite a bit about other aspects but this is all new to my level of skills.

so thanks again and dont feel that you didnt help or failed me because thats not the case.

    Rob,

    Understood.

Just to avoid a potential misunderstanding, you do not need to make a USB to do a Repair install. You just boot Windows normally then use the given tutorial procedure.
    [Run File explorer,
browse to & double-click on the ISO file to 'mount' it,
    double-click on the setup.exe file,
    click OK a few times,
make sure it shows you as keeping your files & keeping your installed applications,
slope off for a pot of tea while the computer does all the work.]

I always make a system image and update my file backups before running a Repair install but it is actually a very reliable procedure. I think it failed once for me about five years ago but did not destroy anything - it just ended then restored everything to how it had been beforehand.

You can post back here when you want and I'll answer any questions you might have & guide you through the procedure in any amount of detail that you need.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

that actually makes it a bit clearer thanks, i did have a quick look at that link you gave and the video but what you said there makes it a bit easier to understand.

i have everything important on external drive anyways so all is good.

i thank you very much for your help and will not hesitate to get back to you if required, god bless. (i'm not a religious person but my dearly beloved mother in law used to say that).

    cheers Rob

    Yes, absolutely.

I haven't watched that video. I prefer to use the step-by-step approach of the tutorial itself so that I can scroll up & down the page if I want to double-check the instructions for anything I've done or am about to do.

    All the best,
