    Updates Fail Every Month

Beyond frustrated. Computer isn't even used but I turn it on a few times every month and the security updates fail every time. I have tried manually installing and they still fail. It's on 21H1. I guess my next option is to try and install 21H2 but the computer seems to be stuck on a restart. I hate Windows.

Suggest you have two basic options.
    a. An in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and hope that resolves the problem (it often does).
    - you can use that to upgrade to 20H2 if you use the media creation tool to get the iso file you will use.

That would take you 1-2 hours to try.

    b. Wait for a technical expert e.g. @zbook or @Tekkie Boy to devote hours and 10s of posts requiring you to repeatedly provide logs.

    You've not said:
    - what error message you see
    - what your exact build number is (as the forum prompted you to do
    - whether you've run any basic checks on your disk, your file system, Windows Update troubleshooter...

Whether you've enough free space on your system disk

What AV you're using (some of the less common ones interfere and have to be fully removed).

Other programs such as Acronis products can interfere sometimes.

I just tried to manually install 21H2 using the enablement package. Just stalls. Every other computer installed it within minutes.

Thank you very much for your reply.

    That's not what I suggested.

Once again the monthly security update has failed multiple times via WU. And this is after I was able to easily install the enablement package to go to 21H2 a few weeks ago.

    Again, please see post #2.

Do you understand its significance? Or do you need further explanation?

And thank you for your reply.

An inplace upgrade to fix WU is ridiculous. There has to be a fix for the problem without reinstalling the OS.

An In-Place upgrade "repairs" Windows. It retains all your 3rd party programs and files.
It takes about 40 mins total.
Unlike a clean install, an In-Place upgrade compares and ISO image of Windows 10, to "your" Windows 10 installation and "replaces" anything that is corrupt.

The only other real method is to troubleshoot, step by step, until the problem(s) are found and corrected.
That can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks of back and forth posts.

We are not being lazy here, we are trying to give you the quickest, easiest solution... from "your" point of view.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Most of us on here use backup software... religiously. Programs like Macrium Reflect, or AOMEI Backupper, both have free versions... etc.

No matter what software problems I run into, up to and including Windows not being able to boot... I can fix by restoring from a backup.
I have approx. 40GB on my C:\ drive... I can make or restore from a backup in under 2 minutes.

Backup software is pretty much a "get out of jail free" card.

Thank you again so very much for your reply.

Did you actually read (b) in my first reply?

Your reply indicates you did not trouble to do so.

And bear in mind that requires you are dependent on some hours of someone else's time -- for free.
