How to stop Windows Update updating graphic driver?

Today I installed the latest drivers from AMD so that I can run games that require Vulkan, but after I installed the latest drivers, windows update reinstalled the old drivers. And I can't run the game anymore. How can I prevent Windows Update from automatically downloading and installing graphic drivers? This is very annoying..

    @mikelferdinan

    Open the registry editor.
    Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

On the right side, create a new 32-bit DWORD value named: ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate
Set it's Value Data to: 1
    Restart the computer.

I don't have WindowsUpdate folder in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows so I create a new one and doing next step. Is it fine?

Either that or just use the reg file in the tutorial I linked.

    Hello @mikelferdinan,

Just use the Disable_Drivers_in_Windows_Update.reg file in this Tutorial . . .

Try to hide the update with the wushowhide Tool from Microsoft:

When I update my vid card driver, I do it without the internet hooked up. There are two different kinds of Nvidia drivers.
Those that come with the Nvidia control panel, and those that don't.
The secret to keeping Microsoft away from your vid card driver is to use the version that comes WITH the Nvidia control panel.
If you use the version without the Nvidia control panel, then Microsoft will add the control panel.

This is my guide that I use when updating the vid card driver. This method AND the registry patch should keep Microsoft from messing with your vid card driver.

    DDU Instructions - Nvidia
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get the Standard/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

In step #2 of the guide, the link for the Nvidia driver is for the "standard" driver. The one "with" the Nvidia Control Panel included.

I had the same problem. Hiding the update was the easiest way for my case.
    1. Re-install the AMD drivers to overwrite what Windows Update installed.
    2. Do NOT run Windows Update at this point.
    3. Instead, run WU Show/Hide Tool. Let it find the old AMD drivers and hide them.

Next time you run Windows Update, it should no longer automatically install the old version.
