    Toshiba Satellite.....Updates

O.k This old Toshiba Satellite is working fine now, thanks to help from members on this forum......the only thing that concerns me is that it won't install certain updates.......it says "Some update files are missing, or are having problems" and gives error code Ox8007186.......is there a way tp "force" these updates through ?

    Try running the Update Troubleshooter

Where specific updates result in error messages, but the O/S is sound, there have usually been two options:
    a. an in-place upgrade repair install
    b. detailed technical analysis of log files by one of the couple of experts willing to spend significant time (for free) investigating the problem.

This is not uncommon. You might try searching for your error number on tenforums to see if there's a similar case.

Usually routine fixes don't help, but feel free to try e.g. the tutorial on resetting Windows Update from the searchable tenforums Tutorial section.

You can zip and upload the cbs.log file which someone might then look at...

Meanwhile you can try the tutorial I mentioned to reset Windows Update just in case you're really lucky.

Well, the problem update is definately KB5007186.......it will download, go through the install process, but then won't actually install......just trying it with the firewall, and Windows Defender disabled, but not very hopeful......is there any way to disable this update ?

All updates can be 'hidden' - but you can expect the same may well occur with the next CU.

There's a tenforums tutorial or free tools such as WUmgr and WUmt are more convenient with scan, checkbox selection and a 'hide' option.

I guess you've decided against the tutorial on resetting Windows Update and submitting diagnostic info.

It won't be anything to do with those. And you'll be lucky if the tutorial helps, but certainly worth trying. Identifying the cuplrit will require log investigation I expect.
