    Windows 10 Update .net error

    Hello Everyone,

I am running Windows 10 (21H1) and my windows is running fine and is up to date.

However .net core 3.1.17 and .net 5.0.8 & 5.0.10 updates are not getting installed. It downloads them and after installing it shows download error and finally shows message "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)".

I have run SFC /scannow and windows update trouble shooter and also deleted files in download folder in windows software distribution but still issue is not resolved.

Please let me know what to do to solve it. Image here: err — ImgBB

Hi, you can of course perform an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.

Tutorial available and I have posted simple instructions scores of times.

Someone may be able to provide a specific solution, but spending an hour or so on the above is probably your fastest solution, and typically resolves odd update problems.

Here's your screenshot using forum features (preferred):

    Issue continues

I deleted everything in software distribution folder. I think its an issue with Microsoft or something. Updates never gave a problem in my machine.

Should I just upgrade to Windows 11 ?

Actually now I look at what's happening again, you're probably right.. should be a minor issue.

I certainly wouldn't upgrade to Win 11 - certainly not for this.

I would give it longer to complete, and if that doesn't work out, use the tutorial to reset Windows Update (which includes what you've done but adds more and makes it easy)
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Could be an MS server issue..

Try out Win 11 in a VM first. Note that the taskbar is far less functional than Win 10's.

    Thank you for replies guys.

I think I should wait for a few days or more and maybe this issue gets resolved itself. I think this is some bug or issue from Microsoft.

I'm also seeing this on multiple PCs. Windows Update shouldn't be offering .NET 5.0.8 or 5.0.10. The current version is 5.0.11, which will replace any older 5.0.x version if installed. 5.0.11 was pushed out via Windows Update last month. The other versions currently being offered are likely failing to install because a newer version is already installed.

(Similar issue with the 3.1.x version they are trying to push; 3.1.20 is the current version.)

I think this is a Microsoft server/Windows Update issue which hopefully they will notice and fix soon.

    also
I have 3.1.20 .NET and windows update is trying to install 2021-07 .NET Core 3.1.17 Update for x64 Client (KB5004772) Failed to install on 11/4/2021 - 080070643

I also hate when I can't find release notes on these "fixes" how long do you think it will take till they get this fixed?

I can confirm the above, being the same issue with the same three updates for .NET on my own Windows 10 machine.

Having read this (and the comments from others, that multiple machines seem to suffer from the same issues), I came to remember some flawed Windows update (don't recall exactly what it was about) that "some guy" had approved prematurely (I think it was someone from Microsoft India if I recall that correctly) and which had to be "disabled" by Microsoft in the Update app/server afterwards since it was impossible to retract it (at least not immediately) from the update cycle. This update "lingered" - although disabled - for months and months in the Windows Update app until it was subsequently removed for good.

Maybe, this is a similar issue?

If you're really keen to get this, you could try the MS update catalog: e.g.
    Windows 10 Update .net error-1.jpg

And the one shown as still pending for download:

I tried that already. The links do not work. None of them. At least not for me when I tried them.
