I have the same problem. I did download and install KB5006192 & 4698

Hi. Thanks for the thread. At least I do not feel alone.

I have the same problem. I did download and installed both KB5006192 & KB5004698, and it did not help. They did not even show up in the list under Control Panel / Programs / Programs and Features / Installed Updates.

When I restarted the computer, and did another retry on Windows update, still the same error.

At the end, I doubled clicked on each downloaded update and uninstalled them - they know they were installed, and they ask you if you want to uninstall them.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Hi. I repeated these steps:
    SFC /scannow
installed both packages: KB5004698 and KB5006192 (I had downloaded the packages separately).
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    rename %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits
    restarted computer.
    Did another windows update.
It actually downloaded both packages completely (although I installed both successfully).
But got download error on installation. Weird. Something is really wrong inside Windows Update process.

    Add me to this list.

    Just started happening today.

I have several 21H1 system but this laptop is the only one that is showing as compatible to Windows 11. I don't know if that has anything to do with hitting this Windows 10 update issue only on this laptop.

I have the same problem, and I knew it's not my machine because it's brand new. A few posters above have hit the nail on the head - Windows is trying to overwrite the latest .NET 5 version (5.0.11) users already have installed on their machines with older obsolete versions (5.0.8 & 5.0.10), realising it's mistake, aborting the installs, and spitting out the error codes. It will be fixed eventually (hopefully soon because I hate seeing the error warning).

To confirm you have the latest .NET 5 version 5.0.11 installed, open cmd window and type [dotnet --info] minus the brackets at the prompt. Remember to leave the space in the command line though.

It should look this, with the version number in the [Host] paragraph -

Guys I had the same issue and this is the solution for it.

    Visit this website https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

Then in the search menu search for both the updates .net 5.0.10 update for x64 client (kb5006192) & .net 5.0.8 update for x64 client (kb5004698). If you want to skip these steps and directly install the .exe just click on the links below. I downloaded/compiled and zipped all the .exe files into a single zipped file for your ease.

It will give you the results click on the 5.0.10 update for x64 client & 5.0.8 update for x64 client links respectively a menu will open up with 10 links each in the popup download all of them a total of 20 .exe files from there and one by one install each .exe file

For .net 5.0.8 update for x64 client (kb5004698) list of the files:
    1. aspnetcore-runtime-5.0.8-win-x64_be9610a703b17c7b260955a148f6b3d6b6ea74ac.exe

A few will install while a few will fail letting you know that it is already installed or a newer version is already installed, so ignore those. After installing all of them one by one. You can again try the Windows Update and this time around the error would completely go away & it will show that your windows 10 is up to date.

P.S If anyone is facing issue to download the .exe files I have also shared links of zipped files with all these .exe in one place.

Thank you for this! I was able to get rid of the 5.0.10 (kb5006192) update following this method, but the 5.0.8 one (kb5004698) still appears and fails. I’ve resorted to using the Show or Hide Updates tool to just get rid of the 5.0.8 one. Thanks again!

Did you download and install all 10 .exe files in the link for .net 5.0.8 update for x64 client (kb5004698). Please do not skip any file and you will be good to go. Hope it helps.

Yep did all of them. This is still an improvement tho. Thanks! :)

Edit: The issue is that you can’t install DotNet SDK 2.0.5 and 2.0.7 at the same time. Installing 2.0.7, which fixes the 5.0.10 update, uninstalls 2.0.5, which breaks the 5.0.8 update.

Edit 2: Similarly, you can either have .Net Core SDK 3.1.414 (for .Net 3.1.20) or 3.1.411 (for .Net 3.1.17) installed but not both. So you can fix the bad update for .Net 3.1.20 (kb5007050) but you will keep getting updates for 3.1.17 (kb5004772).

Had this issue recently, .net 5.0.11, and .net core 3.1.20 already installed correctly, but windows updater wanted to install .net 5.0.8, .net 5.0.10, and .net core 3.1.17, and that resulted on the error 0x80070643, because those versions where older than the ones installed already.

I confirmed this by folowing MikeWD instructions to verify the version

The easiest way to get rid of the error es to simply hide those updates running the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter from Microsoft sollowing the steps on this guide
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

That way windows update will no longer try to install those older versions and continue to work as always without problems, no need to reset anything or delete files.

@ manuelfr51 yeah. Hiding the updates after verifying you have the latest seems to be the best approach until MS fixes this on the server end.

Is this the Microsoft utility used to hide the offending updates?
