Windows Update KB80070643 failed to Install, now Windows is dung

(System details and version at the end)

Before 2021Oct13, I had a working Windows 10 21H1 x64 computer. Then on that day, I started Windows Update. KB5006670 failed to install, and WU backed out the other updates that were installed with it.
I download the *.msu file for this KB, but it also fails.

I go into the event viewer, and every log is hosed; Windows Update KB80070643 failed to Install, now Windows is dung-image.png

I run "sfc /scannow" repeatedly and it states errors were found and corrected. sfc never reached the 'no errors found' state.

I run dism and get an Error:50 Windows Update KB80070643 failed to Install, now Windows is dung-image.png
Windows Update KB80070643 failed to Install, now Windows is dung-image.png
I then discover my backups are failing because of VSS corruption.

At this time, a couple weeks later I still cannot get that KB installed or clean up my Windows OS.

This installation is just a few months old, because I did a fresh install onto a SSD. I don't want to do a fresh install again because after a history of bad windows updates from Microsoft, I promised myself I would rebuild with Linux next time.

Is there anyway to salvage this OS?

I would make a full backup of your boot drive with Macrium Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect then try Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade which will hopefully resolve the problem (try this last after other suggestions in next post).

Make a Macrium Reflect Rescue USB after you install Macrium Reflect.

Did you run dism from a normal Windows bootup with WiFi/ethernet connected? If not, try that first.

And try this next before the other stuff I posted earlier: Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Macrium Reflect isn't working due to VSS being broken. Since I did a fresh install onto my SSD a while ago, The Windows 7 Backup isn't working. My plan and hope is to be able to clone my SSD to a HDD before I dig myself deeper in the hole.
Make a Macrium Reflect Rescue USB after you install Macrium Reflect.
    Will Do, if possible.

Try the suggestions in my 2nd post first as they are simpler and may resolve the problem.

That was how I first attempted, and failed dism. I also retied it just before my post.

I did reset WU, but with a different script. I'll try again with the script you referenced.

    Possibly symptoms of drive failure.

I downloaded and ran the batch file you indicated. Then after a reboot, I attempted a Windows update. It still coughed-up on KB5006670.

[Solved] DISM Error 50 on Windows 10 try fix 1, and if not resolved, fix 2 to fix dism error

    If still not working:
Windows Update KB80070643 failed to Install, now Windows is dung

After dism is fixed, try checking for Windows Updates again.
