    Fyi kb5006738

"Update: This apparently is an issue with my computer, not the update"
Just for info: Normally do not install optional updates but decided to install KB5006738 on my laptop. Update restarts computer and at 30% bsod “System thread exception not handled”. Same on the 2nd reboot. On the 3rd reboot, hit F8, F5 to start in safe mode receiving message “We couldn’t complete the update. Undoing changes to your computer" then restarts again with the same bsod. 2nd reboot same bsod. 3rd reboot F8>F5. Laptop boots to safe mode but now have a message on the desktop: “Keep USB drive plugged in only remove it after your pc shuts down completely. Otherwise, your Windows To Go workspace might crash and you could lose data.” I have never used WTG and there is no usb drives plugged in. Reboot computer and have to go thru the same procedure to access the C: drive.

Restored C: from my 10-15-21 usb backup drive. Rebooted C: numerous times and it works perfectly ever time until I install KB5006738. It is optional and for now I will not install it again.

This is a highly recommend way to make regular backups: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Started to post in the news section but got the feeling that might only be for the insiders. It is there now.

Used Macrium many years ago then went to Casper Backup because they were the only one that I knew of that created complete cloned bootable backups on usb drives.

If you can make a post in a section, it's open to you too.

I've never heard of Casper Backup. Are you saying you can boot your cloned backup of Windows from the USB, even if the boot drive was disconnected/broken/etc?

Yes, I can remove my OS hard drive from the pc or laptop and boot to the USB backup drive and access my data drive, game drive and misc drive.

So are you then actually running full Windows OS from the USB?

Yes, running a fully cloned windows 10 off of a bootable Lacie usb drive with the primary os drive out and laying in a drawer. The usb backup replaces the os hard drive,

Very interesting. I wonder if Macrium Reflect can do that? It seems that it should be able to.

I can't see see ever needing to do that myself as I imagine it's slow. I'd just put a spare drive in the PC and restore a Macrium Reflect full backup image to the spare SSD.

    Thanks for the info though

Don't know if Macrium Reflect can do it but would think it could.

My OS backup time to a completely blank ssd drive is around 6>7 minutes. I backup the OS if I make any major changes or immediately after a windows update. The last 3 full OS backups are kept. The oldest two are kept off premises and the latest kept in my office. My data drive, game drive and misc drives take about 2 min and are stored same as the os drives.
