Fast Guide : Why you should dodge upgrading to Windows 11 for now

    - There is no "Start Menu" , they give you an old style "Search Box" quite similar to Windows 10 Search

    - No "Windows Tiles" , but instead there are now things called "Widgets" but they do not cover the functionality or easy access of "Windows Tiles"

    - You can't add "Tool Bars" to "Taskbar" anymore

    - You can not Re-orient "Taskbar" , and while there is a registry hack to do it , all pop-ups generated from "Taskbar" become mis-proportioned with unclickable areas

    - You can no longer right click "Taskbar" to access "Task Manager" longer leaps or short cut keys to get there

    - No one setting to enable showing icons in "System Tray" instead you have to select them one by one to show

    - "Notification Area" (a.k.a Command Center) is totally gone along with all buttons it held , few of these buttons related to networking were shifted to pop-up window accessible on clicking Speaker icon !

    - Sound Mixer is removed

    - If your PC supports "Stereo Mix" option it might be omitted for you

    - If your device is "Touch Capable" they no longer widen the space between icons automatically so you can touch them without glitching , people asking for a quick fix were given registry entries to modify but the end result is that the whole icon becomes bigger but not the space between them

    - "Background Apps" window was removed , there is no one place to quickly turn on or off what apps may run in the back ground , instead you can tweak that option through "Add Remove Programs" and looking up Apps within Desktop Apps and modifying them from 3 dots button

    - "Cortana" properties were removed on the verge of completely deprecating it

    - In Windows 10 you could set "Metered" connection to only apply for "Store Apps" but not "Windows Updates" in Windows 11 its just one option for both

    - You can no longer drag and drop files on programs pinned or running on "Taskbar" to have them opened

That and what is left is Windows 10 in "Dark Mode" just ...

Have you posted in elevenforum.com - this could be useful to someone looking there too.

I haven't tried Windows 11 yet, but haven't seen any reason to either and plenty of reasons not to. Thanks for sharing your list here

All my "Personal Machines" are still on 7. Upgrading will always bring "one more click" to achieve same goal.

Back then, I waited until Win7 SP1 before I upgraded from WinXP SP3. I just upgraded to Win10 Pro (literally like 5mins ago) and will probably stay there a while. Normally I upgrade within 2 years of EOL of the previous OS. This also gives time for the current OS to release more cumulative updates.

    Thanks for the list.

Have you actually used Windows 11? The Start Menu has not been removed, but it has had a redesign.

Widgets have nothing to do with the Start menu and do not asppear on it anywhere. Widgets are an improved version of 'News and Interests' that W10 has on its taskbar.

Yes Live tiles are no longer pinned on Start, instead there are proper icons for each app pinned there. You can still pin your own apps and rearrange them to personalise your Start Menu. Looking for the All Apps menu? Then click 'All apps'.

True, but you can just right-click on Start instead, same as you can in W10.

I don't know what the definition of a 'notification' should be, but it's a bit of a stetch to get it to include the Night Light or Flight Mode buttons, or the brightness slider come to that.

In W11 those buttons have been moved out of Notifications. They ALL now live in the combined battery/network/speaker popup, not 'a few' as you said. Just click the 'Edit' icon (the pencil at the bottom right) and they are all there waiting to be chosen an pinned, just the same as editing them in W10's notification.

Oh, and it make a lot more sense to have the brighness and sound sliders together on the same popup,

I can see you are enthusiastic about Windows 11 , however you should review your post , I mean are you happy about this new rubbish start menu ? everybody is complaining at Microsoft Community about it and the changes done to taskbar marking it crippled .

So basically they offered nothing but a confusing less productive design and no new features and that's about it .

Literally the only edge Windows 11 may have is the plan to introduce native capability of running android apps along with a dedicated store and yet there is no word on which phase they are about to release such thing so technically no reason for such an upgrade in the time being unless you just want to lose functionality .

P.S What sense are you using to believe brightness and networking belong to sound options ?

At some point when Windows 10 is no longer supported, I'll have to upgrade to remain secure

In the mean time, I'm just going to observe all opinions. Some seem to like it, but I can't seem to get a feel percentage-wise on how many people are happy with Windows 11 over Windows 10. If anyone has links to surveys, please post them. Thank you.

Yes, happy enough. took about 10 minutes to pin and arange the apps I want so they all appear together on W11's Start (including adding my own custom shortcut to All apps). That is much the same as I do for all my W10 machines, only difference is that they're Tiles not icons.

If you compare my typical W10 and W11 Start menus they are quite similar by the time I've finished my pinning/rearranging excercise.

For me by far and away the single most significant improvement over W10 is the Settings app. I have machines that are not supported to run 11, and a couple that are. I'm keeping all my unsupported machines on W10 for the foreseeable future. But I'm finding it painful to go back to the incoherent mess that is the Settings app in W10 after see just how usable and well laid out it is in W11.

They know they lost the battle , they just try to copy from what is known to be popular / successful .
