    KB4023057 not available to me

    Hi
    very simple question.
Why is KB4023057 not available for my PC in the Microsoft Update Catalogue?
This is "2021-09 Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057)".
To my knowledge this is the first time that an update is not available in the Catalogue like this.
Other than this my PC is up to date.

You probably already have it installed. It's an old update.

It IS up there, but it seems Windows version 1803 is the latest version.

Since January 2021, MS has been including SSU in with the regular updates.

I have checked both in normal windows stuff and programs in control panel.
Surely the latest version dated "2021-09" is different to the previous versions, otherwise why bother.
Thanks for replying by the way.

.... oh and I keep getting prompts for it to be loaded via windows updates which fail.
(Sorry - not used to using the 'tenforums' system)

Thank you Ghot for replying - Surely when MS prompts for an update, it should be done, sooner or later.
Since I believe that this update is related to windows update (which has been problematic for this PC for nearly a year) I would like to install it obviously.
In the past I have used the MS Update Catalogue (MUC) to install difficult KBs.
For some reason (YES I CHECKED ON MICROSOFT SITE - couldn't find an explanation) as why this KB is not available via the MUC.
    Hence this Thread.

I messaged a guy who may be able to help, but he won't be on for 2-3 hours yet.
In the meantime, you might try resetting Windows Update...

Thank you - will give the 'Reset ' a go and come back.
Just so you know all the information, the problem I have struggled with for several months gives the error 0x80070057 and PLEASE NOBODY send me ways to fix that as I have spent many many hours and have tried all options that I have seen on the internet to no avail.
My thinking was if I could install the '2021-09' version and it fixes my windows update the problem is solved.
I'll be back in a hour or so - thank you very much so far.

The easiest way to "fix" it is to do an In-Place upgrade, but that takes about 45 mins, so let's save that till we are sure we need to do it.

Nice little batch with a couple of things I've not included before - problem is the 'Cryptographic service failed to stop'.
From memory I think I solved this by using safe mode.
Anyway best way forward is probably to try the In-Place upgrade, which I have not done in a long while, might even have been on Win 7.
So if you can help me with that, or point me in the right (and best) direction I would be grateful.

    - - - Updated - - - 1 minute later

Oh - I assume the In-Place upgrade takes Win 10 to the latest version not to my current version, thus bypassing the one update that doesn't work.

    - - - Updated - - - 5 minutes later

Actually found my old notes - checked up to date and am running the In-Place Upgrade NOW.
This PC (for this comment ONLY) is obviously not the one that is being upgraded. This 11year old PC is still running reasonably well, but can NEVER be upgraded to Win 11 when the time comes, so might need to be retired in 4 years time.

    - - - Updated - - - 80 minutes later

Have implemented the In-Place Upgrade - which took just over an hour, and that's with an SSD for OS drive. I mention this because if somebody reading this who has HDD for OS they may take much longer.
Anyway - the result is that downloads using Windows Update still fail with error 0x80070057 and obviously I cannot upgrade the 2021-09 ... KB4023057, which in the past I could have got from MS Update Catalogue.
Also I will have to hand install the latest NET update (as before), and the info about being Okay for WIN 11 update, it now says I may have a hardware problem. Whether the latter is as a result of the actions today or MS have made changes since that information was made available to me (something else to check).
SO BACK TO WHERE I STARTED - Why can't the update I want be made available on the MS Update Catalogue? That would make it easy for me to install it.

    - - - Updated - - - 22/10/21 10:53 UK time

Decided to try the update from 21H1 to 21H2 to enable Windows Update, using KB5003791, as suggested by Ghot.
It was very fast and went smoothly.
The PC build has moved from 19043.1288 [21H1] to 19044.1288 [21H2] as expected.

Windows Update now does NOT give an error, however that is because my PC is up to date and no updates are required.
That means the jury is still out on whether this has fixed my problem.

Quirkily KB5003791 does not show in 'View update history' as a feature update, but a quality update and the associated link fails with 'page not known'. Probably (I'm guessing) because it's an insider option, and my PC is not on the insider program.
Hopefully I can keep my PC up to date until Win 11 happens, when we can look forward to a whole new can of worms.

Windows 11 already happened on October 5th.

Windows 11 available on October 5

You should run this tool to make sure your computer is setup prperly, to run Windows 11...

    Releases . rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11 . GitHub

Scroll down on that page and download the tool in the RED square...
Save it to your desktop. Double click the file to run. You should get all GREEN responses.
The video part takes about a minute to finish...

This is what the results should look like, if you're all set for Windows 11.
There are work-arounds if you don't get all GREEN results.
