Windows 10 update from 1909 to 20H1 stucked at 99%

Hi,

I am looking for help as I have not been successful in getting my desktop to the latest version of Windows 10. I let it run overnight and most of the day today (almost 24 hours) and it is stuck at 99% (getting your update ready - Updating Windows 10).

This is a new build which replaces my older one.

What are my options? I do really appreciate any help to get it updated. Current Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1556)

Hello avopr2002 and welcome to TF ,

If you look at the disk activity LED for a few minutes and it's not flashing or on, I'd say it's stuck and your only option is to turn the power off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on and hope for the best. Let us know what happens after that.

So still on 1909 then?

Try upgrading this way: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Make sure your BIOS and drivers are up to date first and disconnect any unnecessary hardware and uninstall any 3rd party AV, firewall or VPN before you begin.

this is the error message i got:

If you check Windows Updates, are there any pending updates showing?

You could try doing this: Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
then try to update the way you originally did via Windows Update, or just use the link I posted earlier to do an in-place upgrade.

Thanks! I am going through the in place update process, as I already had an ISO file. It is currently running "Making sure you're ready to install" step.

Great! Hopefully it completes within 6 hours or much less if you have a SSD boot drive

I have a MP600 NVMe, so hopefully fast enough. Still on making sure you're ready to install.

Let us know how long it actually took. I'm guessing 2-3 hours. Probably overestimating.
