Good morning! The update has been running all night but still on "making sure you're ready to install". Started 8:00 PM local time and it is now 6:30 AM (PST).

Is it supposed to run that long? Or is the process stuck?

    Thanks!

    Good morning,

It seems to be stuck. If you're not seeing any disk activity LED flashing or on, turn it off, then back on.

Did you happen to try the Reset Windows Update link I posted?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...8-e9c6714349b9 might want to check these logs for possible information on why it's failing. Did you uninstall all 3rd party firewall, antivirus, and VPN and disconnect any unnecessary hardware?

    Upgrade stuck at 91%?

Maybe you should try the steps in post #8 of the above thread.

Sorry for taking long to respond, but i am just back from work. I left the update to ran for the full day today, but no progress.

Next steps as per your reply this morning:
    1. try reset link (i haven't try it yet)
    2. Yes, I have removed my AV, and removed pretty much everything not needed.
    3. After trying the reset recommendation, check for Step #8.

    Thanks!!

One more thing ... i don't know if this matters, but every time i use File Explorer it takes too long to get to actually able to use it. Another strange behaviour is when running CMD as admin. it takes a long to come up the window, but normal run, it comes up quickly.

    Thanks!

Regarding the slow File Explorer and CMD as admin, create a new account on your PC and see if these issues happen there too. Also try booting to safe mode from your main account and see if the problem happens there. This will tell us whether it's related to your main account and if safe mode is a factor or not.

Generally doing a repair-upgrade isn't such a challenge like it's being here. I hope going through that checklist will lead to success soon.

Thanks Steve. I will try that tomorrow and let you know the outcome. Earlier I executed the .bat file, restarted pc then ran the in-place update but got stuck on the same step.

Will email you tomorrow as soon as I try your latest recommendations.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the update

Tomorrow also try from and admin powershell prompt before doing anything else:
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
if sfc fails to repair any issue the first time, run it again after dism command. Hopefully you get clean output for both (no corruption detected or corruption detected and repaired)

    Hi,

I have not been successful on getting my desktop upgraded yet. I created a second account (Administrator) and the performance issue was resolved. I have tried upgrade in-place with the new user, but after running for almost 26 hours it did not pass the step of "making sure you are ready" message.

    What really are my options?

    Thanks,
    Alberto

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...and-event-logs

Did you try looking at these logs after aborting upgrade that's not completing?

You can either try to copy files to your new profile and reinstall apps, etc to make it your new profile or.....

Make a full backup of your boot drive with Macrium Reflect Free Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Then try to do a clean install Clean Install Windows 10 and rebuild your profile by copying files out of your Macrium Reflect backup and reinstalling apps as necessary.

If clean install fails, you should be able to restore your Macrium Reflect backup image and be back to the point you are now.
