    Windows 11 compatible but not even offered 21H2??

    I have an HP desktop PC and a DELL laptop and both are suitable for Windows 11 although it has not been offered as yet. Both machines have received the latest Windows updates and are on Windows 10 version 21H1 build 1288.

    1. I am not interested in upgrading to Windows 11 but, if the machines are suitable for Windows 11, why aren’t my machines being offered the upgrade to version 21H2?
    2. Are there issues with 21H2 that caused Microsoft to put an upgrade block on it?
    3. I am happy with version 21H1 and I assume I will not be offered the upgrade to Windows 11 until version 21H2 is installed. Am I right in this assumption?

    Thanks.

    Microsoft does not offer the upgrade to everyone at the same time. They do a staged rollout. They have stated that their estimate for when all eligible systems would be offered the updated is about mid 2022.

    Thank you.

    Apparently I am being premature. I have just seen that version 21H2 isn't ready for release yet. See Windows 10 version 21H2 is coming - here's what you need to know about it - Neowin .

    Please ignore this thread.

    Bit confused on 21H2 availability. I did the October CU on 10/28/21 and on that date, the WU page offered the FU to 21H2. I didn't select it and after the CU updated things, the offer for 21H2 was replaced with a warning that my system was not able to support W11 (which I already knew). My ASUS tower doesn't have a TPM installed and I haven't opened it up to see if one can even be plugged in yet. The machine was originally a W7 system, so if I have to spring for a new tower to get W11, I suspect I've gotten what I paid for originally. I won't consider going to W11 until some time in 2024, so it's all moot for now.

    @wiganken and @jamis

    The confusion is not unexpected. There are in fact two quite different builds with the same 21H2 version number.

    Windows 11 version 21H2, released on October 5th

    Windows 10 version 21H2, the November 2021 Update which is in Insider Preview at present.

    Ah, yes, confusion reigns! Who ever said ignorance is bliss, didn't know what they were talking about. Thank you for the clarification.

    I got a new 14" Dell Notebook couple weeks ago that came with Win10 Pro installed, after setup finished and checked for updates got it fully updated, rebooted and checked again, got Win11 Pro Version 21H2 Build 22000.282.

    There is another update available now, KB5008295, didn't take long and seems to be for fixing some issues.

    I don't understand the confusion. Even the Windows 10 semi-annual updates aren't offered to everyone at the same time. They are rolled out over several months. People with compatible computers get it first. Sometime the upgrades are held back until compatibility problems are worked out.

    I was offered the upgrade to Windows 11 today. I upgrade it using the Windows 11 ISO.
