    Windows 10 may 2021/21H1 update

I have a laptop and I have Windows 10 home 20H2, and the Windows 10 May 2021 Update/21H1 is out, and The Check For Update section says that there are no available updates/ my system is up to date, but how do I get 21H1. My OS Build is 19042.1266.

If you wish to download it manually and apply it, see the relevant thread in the News section. The News section has a thread per update per build with download links below the main text.

Note that MS imposes a Safeguard check- that is, if an update is deemed likely to be incompatible with your machine/configuration you will not be offered it. That may be why you're not offered it.

Make sure you have an appropriate backup just in case- the routine and regular use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended by members so you have a second chance and a full backup.

Note that recent MS feature updates add little or nothing noticeable for most people. Past ones have been known to break things.

I had a laptop that was stuck at the 20H2 version until I downloaded Windows Update Assistant. It said the laptop did not have the latest version and offered to update the laptop to 21H1. I indicated ok to do, so it did. Done.

    I have the same issue

I'm being offered 20H2 (which I'm not interested in) but I have not been offered 20H1. I have downloaded the Windows Update Assistant but as yet I haven't run it as first I want to pose a question regarding the use of the Microsoft Edge Chromium Blocker Toolkit.
If the "MECBT" has set the registry to block the installation of Edge will I still be able to upgrade to 20H1? I have had KB5006670 attempting to install several times on my system, but as I believe it contains Edge installation I keep having the message at 98%
"We couldn’t complete the updates. Undoing changes." each time I run windows update. I did not want to jeopardise another BSOD as I've had twice now when attempting to upgrade to 20H2. I now just want to install 20H1 as I understand it to be more stable than 20H2 but if the edge blocker in the registry is going to send me into another BSOD whilst attempting to upgrade to 20H1 then I will have to look into placing the registry back to default for the installation of Edge Update.

20H1 is 2004. 2004 support will end mid-December - a little over a month from now - then no updates after that.

Did you mean 21H1 and 21H2?

Sorry got a bit excited with posting this and didn't see the obvious error, 21H1 is the version I'm after (I think) if it's more stable than 21h2? Although now I think I'm getting the cart before the horse, if I'm being offered 20H2 then does that mean I need to install it before I'm offered any later versions, sorry I'm having my head twisted inside out each time I receive an update and it fails to install, I then go into repair mode and start searching for answers to why I can't install each update. I do believe though that the edge blocker has a lot to do with updates failing to install and I'm reaching the point where I throw my arms up and surrender and just install Edge and be done with it.

I realise that support is about to end for 2004 that's why I'm now frantically trying to fix windows update so it installs all the necessary updates before I attempt to Upgrade to the next version, where I got confused is, I've been seeing posts about the stability of 21h2, I saw it as referring to 20H2 Doh!! (I'm having multiple senior moments trying to fix this issue) so my question is do I need to follow the natural progression of installing 20H2 then go onto installing 21H1? The $64,000 question is will the Edge blocker stop the upgrade from happening (as Edge is part of the upgrade)?

I'm still using 2004 and will probably keep doing so until mid-January, so don't have any answers to your questions.
