    Even though I changed Group Policy (see post #4) the same thing has happened again. This time it's KB5006365.

    In this case it hasn't actually installed itself (yet). It is just sitting there with the grey 'Download' button displayed inviting me to download it but I find it annoying. I can't get rid of it and no doubt it would get installed along with any other 'Important' update should one appear.

    Any other ideas on how to stop Microsoft pushing 'Preview' type updates on my PC? See: -

    @dalchina - Thank you.

    I managed to work out how to make those same changes so I'll wait to see if it works.

    Ignore the photo. I attached it and don't know how to remove it now.

    Those were taken using Policy Plus (free) - has a find feature.

    Try that, find preview

    It seems to only be Previews for cumulative updates that are optional and wait for you to ask for the download. I have always seen .NET Previews download in the same way as any normal update.

    A CU modifies the OS itself, while .NET Framework is a library of APIs only called by applications that are written to use them (much like some apps require the C++ distributables). I guess that as .NET doesn't modify the OS itself MS don't think it needs to be made optional.

    @Bree - Thank you.

    I understand. So this means that any bugs in the .NET 'Preview' will only become evident when using a third party app that uses the buggy .NET version? This is OK for Windows OS itself but some people will find their apps affected until the bugs are fixed.

    As long as it only happens to .NET updates I'm OK with that, not that it would matter if I wasn't OK with it. Microsoft will do what Microsoft will do.

    I'll call this 'Solved' in that case.
