Windows Update trying to install update that's already installed

Windows Update is constantly trying to a install a windows update that's already installed. To be specific it's September 1st 2021-08 Cumulative Update Preview KB5005101 or September 14 2021-09 Cumulative Update KB5005565 I'm using Windows 10 21H1.

This seems to be related to my previous problem with Windows Update from the same month.

As you can imagine, if it's going to keep trying to install updates that are already installed, then Windows Update might be stuck in the past and might not ever install any future updates, as it'll think the previous ones weren't installed as a prerequisite for newer ones (ie. Feature Update for Windows 21H1).

With the image below the date is different.

However Reliability Monitor fails to acknowledge any Windows Update for KB505565 installation on the 16th and says it happened on the 23rd.

Below is what I've already tried

This is what happens when I install it anyway?

Does anyone here have any ideas?

Windows may report a successful installation when there was none.

When viewing update history you cannot rely on the displayed information.

If necessary this can be confirmed.

    Consider troubleshooting the failed upgrade.

    Run setupdiag:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...20Windows%2010.

Your first screenshot refers to a pending update that is different to the one you mention in your first sentence.
No failures are shown in your Update History.

If you wish to clear the pending update, try
How to Remove Pending Updates Windows 10 - Techilife

You have already done part of this.

You mention preview updates. Pro users can use a group policy to block these, but I think you have Home.

The word failure was not present in the update history as you commented.

Failure though is inferred by the "successful install" with multiple dates.

For example: the image displayed that KB4023057 was successfully installed on each of these dates:

    09/09/2021
    07/28/2021
    06/18/2021

I've tried those instructions and it doesn't work. It's still trying to re-install the same windows update again.

Below is the result of that from that from SetupDiagResults.log

    Thank you for your reply.

You can take the expeditious route and perform an in-place upgrade repair install.
But of course, you won't like that idea.

But it might be a good idea as you seem to have a number of current questions.

The setupdiag indicated a successful upgrade to 20H1.

It did not indicate a successful or failed upgrade to 20H2 or 21H1.

The BIOS is out of date.

    Upgrade the BIOS: 1.2 > 1.22

    Product Support | Acer Canada

    After upgrading the BIOS:

Uninstall any of these non-Microsoft software:
    a) antivirus
    b) firewall
    c) drive encryption

Place the computer in clean boot:
Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

As dalchina commented > perform an in place upgrade repair:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

There is some confusion, as mentioned in post 3 as to which update is involved but am I by any chance correct in thinking that this issue is now solved by this other thread being solved

Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 Won't Install

There is one thought that comes to my mind - many of your problems on your threads MAY possibly be caused by
    Antivirus: Comodo Internet Security

it has some history of causing problems on 10, and the included firewall may also prove problematic - unless specific firewall rules are set

I don't have Comodo Internet Security or any third party antivirus installed any more. I also don't have any third party firewall running either. I'm just using Windows Defender Antivirus and Windows Defender Firewall.

No my problems with Windows Update is not solved. The problem I'm on about in this thread is different to my previous thread.

There is a distinction to make between my previous thread and this one. Before the windows update wouldn't install at all and the error codes would be evident in "reliability monitor" and "view update history in the windows update category of settings app" but now it's already installed but is trying to repeatedly install itself as it fails to acknowledge that it's already installed. If I was to install the cumulative updates with Windows Update right now, the error codes wouldn't exist any more, when before they would appear.
