Ah that is interesting. I wonder what happens if you click on "stay on Windows 10 for now" ....

I would hope it would remove the banner advert, perhaps relegating the upgrade to the 'view optional updates' section as is already the case for optional driver updates....
That guess appears to be correct, judging by this W10 RP Insider's post...

Well for me, no sign of it in optional updates. It is as though w11 does not exist.

Is there a chance that 10 (I have Home version) will automatically start updating to 11? If yes, are there any settings I can change to stop this or maybe install a program like Stop 10?
I would rather update things when I'm ready and I'm happy to stay with 10 for as long as it's supported by Windows. Thanks for any help and advice.
They say that it won't be a forced update, but until when? It is possible to stop the update from Gpedit (Pro/business) and for Home edition this reg tweak should work. Will have to wait when it comes out to see... To be tested on the 5th.

Otherwise, disabling TPM2.0 should be good too, but we never have a clear picture with MS. So, your question makes sense.

Blocking Windows 11 in Regedit (PS ISE/Admin)

To stay on 21H1 and to avoid Win 11: Tested 19043.1288: Not stopping the 21H2 cab file, restarts to 19044.1288. Not a big deal.

    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersionInfo" /t REG_SZ /d "21H1" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersion" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
To stay on 21H2 (19044.xxxx) and block Win11 (tested under build 19044.1266)

    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "ProductVersion" /t REG_SZ /d "Windows 10" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersionInfo" /t REG_SZ /d "21H2" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersion" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
To force Windows 11: Tested under build 19044.1288. Upon restart, WU triggers Windows 11 update immediately. Don't try it if your computer does not meet the requirements. WU keeps throwing 11 and the do not meet... popup.

    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "ProductVersion" /t REG_SZ /d "Windows 11" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersionInfo" /t REG_SZ /d "21H2" /f
    Code:
    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v "TargetReleaseVersion" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

I wonder if they will threaten to "upgrade" compatible machines that are running win7.

They can't. Unlike Windows 10, you cannot upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 7 and keep installed apps. You can only do what is effectively a clean install with an option to keep personal files. And you probably won't get a digital licence by 'upgrading' either. Now that Window 7 is out of support MS no longer feel the need to support that upgrade path. Here's what you see if you try....

Anyway, any PC that came with Windows 7 installed is too old to be anywhere near meeting the W11 hardware requirements.

If you really must try 11 on such a machine, then to keep apps and get it activated with a digital licence you'd need to upgrade to Windows 10 first. Then you'd need to use a workaround to bypass the Windows 11 installer's hardware checks.

Is there something about the word compatible that is confusing? This machine passes the requirements, currently running win7 and win10 has never darkened its doorstep.
