    Having issue installing kb500556 update

I am having problems in installing kb5005565. Windows Update downloads updates and installs other updates but kb5005565 fails to install. It says 100% install but then shows as Retry.

Hi, if all else fails you can perform an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs and data like any upgrade procedure.

You have 21H1, so you should be able to use an iso file created by the MS media creation tool.
Tutorials available. Instructions given many many times on tenforums.

How about trying a manual install that gets around Windows Update first? Download this .msu, double-click it to install, and see what happens.

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/...b27cd683d0.msu

Can't hurt anything to try that.

If you want to bump to 21H2 first, get the Enablement Package and run it first:

Install CAB file in Windows 10

In-place install does not seem to be working

    Thank you for your reply.

I don't see any information there to show in what way 'it isn't working'.

So here again are the instructions:

Check you have at least 30Gb free on C:
    a. download iso file (you must get the correct build, base language and 'bitness' - the MS media creation tool us the easiest way
    b. rt click iso file
    c. click Mount
    d. open new drive letter in file explorer
    e. double click setup.exe

Post the exact text of any error message received and describe what you did leading up to that.

Using the .msu link installation failed!

I will now try @dalchina suggestion.

Carried out the instructions as @dalchina suggested and checked for Windows updates, two were available, kb4023057 and kb5004331 which installed without issues.
But no sign of the troublesome kb500556.

It's failing for me too. It's just the monthly update. I sure as heck am not going to reinstall Windows because of it.

An in-place upgrade repair install is NOT reinstalling Windows inasmuch as you keep
    - your user profiles
    - your data
    - your programs

It is much the same as any major upgrade (not a minor one such as 21H1->21H2).

So if you prefer, you can just wait for any next major windows upgrade, meaning you most likely won't get any Windows updates until that, or hope someone can find and recommend a fix. tenforums members are not the designers of Windows. I am subject to its weaknesses - just as you are. It's your PC, your choice of course.

Or you can search for a solution, and if you find one, let everyone know...

    KB5005565 Update failure

On W10 20H2, my update of KB5005565 repeatedly failed with Error 0x800F0922 , and rolled itself back at each restart ("Please try later"). I tried it about 4 times.
There were no obvious problems with SFC, DISM and the Troubleshooter reported nothing.
However, I had some time ago removed MS Edge (latest version).
I downloaded Edge and reinstalled it, reran the KB5005565 through WU again, without any other changes, and the update installed correctly.
