    Possible printer issue with KB5005565

Today I installed KB5005565 through WU on my desktop. Successfully installed.

Tonight my wife can't print from her laptop to the printer connected to my desktop. This has been working for years.
Printers work, can transfer files from laptop to desktop and back. All network setting unchanged.
I suspect the update I did today is the problem.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Looking at "Uninstall Updates" in WU there is for today:
    • Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5005565)
    • Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.1220

Looking at System Restore, there are 3 restore points to go back to, all dated today:
    • Windows Modules Installer at 12:23
    • Windows Modules Installer at 12:22
    • update at 12:21

What's the best way to roll back?

    I should add:

update at 12:21 is a manual restore point I created before installing the KB (old habit)

When printing from the laptop we get a printer error 0x0000011b

IMHO; I think uninstalling the cum update from yesterday via Control Panel will be more reliable than using System Restore. Once done, you can test your printer and if working again, you'll know the culprit ... or not

PRINT NIGHTMARE (common issue in the wild). Security feature blocks network printers & point-and-print.
Here is a possible explanation for this issue:

I ran into the same problem after installing this update. I uninstalled it on the desktop PC where my printers are connected via USB cables. I was once again able to print over the network from my laptop PC.

My problem is that the update was re-installed by Windows Update a short time later. What's the best way to prevent Windows Update from re-installing this specific update - KB5005565?

I downloaded the wushowhide.diagcab file and had it ready to go --> https://download.microsoft.com/downl...owhide.diagcab

Uninstalled KB5005565 and restarted the PC when prompted.

Immediately ran wushowhide.diagcab after the restart and selected KB5005565 to be hidden.

Checked for new Windows updates and none were found. Perfect!

Note: When KB5005565 is uninstalled, KB5005033 was automatically installed in it's place.

Tested printing over the network from my laptop and I can now print again.

    An Update:

I just uninstalled KB5005565 from Control Panel. (My system also reverted to KB5005033 with a date of 9/16/21. It was originally installed on 8/24/21.)

All my home networked PCs can now print to all the printers connected to my main PC.
    Workaround successful.

But if you read the articles above, this "feature" was designed by MS to protect from a known exploit. So simply trying to avoid the update is just a workaround, not a fix.
We will need to find a way to network PCs and printers with this security patch in place. Sooner or Later.

    Also:
I tried the fix from MS in the first article above (registry edit) and it did not work.
However, I manually created the key and DWORD, so I can't really rule out a typo.
