Thanks for that article steve108. That contains what seems to be the actual fix for this problem.

It is a technical, multi-step process that may be difficult for the average user, but aside from taking some time to configure, looks like it would allow normal print server / client printing while maintaining current security patches.

    FWIW
I have read the writing on the wall, and have decided to migrate my office printers to a network setup (printers will be on the LAN by Ethernet and PCs will access them over the LAN).
I'm starting with the laser printer since it is the oldest (20 years?) and it has been having issues of late anyway (Multipurpose tray won't grab paper, scanner won't play nice with W10), and finding toner cartridges is getting harder and harder.

I'm not sure what to do with the thread. The problem is certainly not solved.
But after a while I will be joining the ranks of people who do not share printers through a (print server) host PC. So I will never know if the issue gets resolved by Microsoft once that all gets done.

I would just leave the thread - your post is sufficient to let others know it may not get further updates from you

I took a similar path. As a home user with 2 PCs and 2 printers, I just replaced my old printers with new wireless models. I can access them from either PC without a problem through my router. No more using Windows 10 as a print server for me.

Best of luck to those still working through this problem.

Print Nightmare got us buying new printers.
W11 got us buying new PCs.

I suspect The Joker (or maybe The Penguin!)

Exactly! I have 1 PC that is compatible and 1 that is not. I've skipped new releases before - Vista & Win8. I can do it again.
