    Upgrading from home to pro

Hello guys and gals, I just brought a legion 5 pro with windows 10 home, I have a older laptop with windows 10 pro ( I have the windows 10 pro key from the old laptop) what is the best way to upgrade my legion 5 pro home to win 10 pro.? Should I upgrade my home to pro first , then apply the key ? What is the best way to upgrade to pro? And how should I deactivate the pro license on the old laptop?

    thanks in advance

I have a older laptop with windows 10 pro
Is that key OEM or retail?
    I.e. is it transferrable?

If unsure, try Showkeyplus (free by member Superfly).

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro
    See from step (4).

And if your license is already tied to a MS live id and is transferrable, it's easier:
Link Microsoft Account to Windows 10 Digital License

All the upgrade Pro key does is release the extra features Pro offers, from/to the existing Home installation. Windows 10 virtually installs the same version, it just "blocks" Pro extras in the Home version.

Just use the Settings menu in Home to change the key. Settings > System > About > Change the product key ...

Note, when completed, it may indicate that the upgrade has been unsuccessful. Just re-boot and the Pro version will be there.

Known issue, when the error code is 0x80070005, for the dreaded "access is denied" error! (like NT5, when busy, apparently) But after closing that pop-up notification, just restart and it should apply Pro. It's a bug, like Windows 2000, which is infamous for "access is denied" errors.

That error code does not mean product key being banned by Microsoft.

Try to use the Pro key from the old laptop. If that doesn't work you can buy a Pro key for c. £10. You don't need to install anything since updating the key unlocks the Pro features.

You don't really download the Windows 10 Pro upgrade. In order to use an OEM product key to upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro do the following steps. Note, the upgrade to Pro is pretty much irreversible (you can change registry keys to go back to Home, though).

    1. Disconnect the computer from all sources of internet.
    2. With the computer completely disconnected from the internet, change the Windows 10 Home product key to VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T.
    3. You might get an error message, but just reboot the computer. It will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, but not activated.
    4. Connect to the internet.
    5. Change the product key to the OEM Windows 10 Pro product key. If the product key has not been blocked from online activation by Microsoft, it will activate the Windows 10 Pro.

Normally, OEM product keys will get rejected when attempting to trigger the upgrade from Home to Pro because I suppose Microsoft figures there would be no reason for an Original Equipment Manufacturer to do an upgrade when they are supposed to be only installing the OS for sale with a new computer.

OEM activations are supposed to go the grave with the OEM machine...

But with a simple phone cal to ms activation center you can have a fully activated zombie
