Who said anything about an iso from a 3rd party? Nothing in what I have posted involves that. Irrelevant issue.

Sorry
Hey Xantam,
I just wanted to point out that I believe I'm having the EXACT same problem as you with the same KB file.
I've not fixed it yet. What I've been doing is postponing updates....(there are minimal things MS lets you control)
Eventually I've come up with a method of completely stopping windows updates....until I'm ready to install them.
Out of curiosity,
You're not using an ASUS computer are you?
Mine is a ASUS Zephyrus G15
Other machines update fine.
Hi, you can - as Xantam did- perform a manual upgrade using an iso file or an in-place upgrade repair using an iso file of the same major build as you have installed - which is applicable depends on
a. which build you have installed now
b. which you prefer to attempt
As to controlling updates, and assuming you have Home, you can
- hide (block) a problematic update
- disable WU with a 3rd party tool or script (2 tutorials available, other 3rd party tools exist)
It is very frustrating that MS produces CUs which seem to be prone to failing to completely install. There will be a specific cause, but identifying it can be tiresome and uncertain.
