Out of curiosity, has anybody else on this forum experienced IE 11 being uninstalled from a machine with this update? I've tested it, and am running the update on all of my machines now and not a single one had IE 11 removed. I even built up a couple of test machines running various releases of Windows and haven't had IE uninstalled.

I've been scouring the net as well and cannot find posts from people saying this update uninstalled their IE.
NOTE: when I first encountered my QuickBooks not starting up and claiming it needs at least Internet Explorer 6 on August 17 I thereafter discovered that Internet Explorer 11 had been uninstalled.
Before the weekend on Friday, August 13 everything worked fine.
The system log shows that an update had occurred.
I found that many had the same quick book issue encountered by uncountable entries. So quite obviously I'm not alone. After I uninstalled the last update IE 11 was back again and everything worked. Then I tried to install the update again this time the update for some reason failed but I could see that it had also attempted to uninstall IE 11 again!
It also deleted the relevant Internet Explorer registry entries!
I downloaded from Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 32 and 64-bit versions and try to install them.
But neither would run and the 32 bit version claimed that it can only run on a 32/64-bit operating system!
    DUH?

Microsoft hasn't pushed any update to remove IE, you need to get the chip off your shoulder and admit the fault lies nearer home than Microsoft.

I heard and came myself across other oddities over the years and although I cannot prove it yet, despite that it is known that Microsoft updates are notoriously for introducing new bugs, I suspect depending on your machine and hardware configuration, not all updates are equal doing the same thing. I noticed that several things can be quite different.
    For example:
I have on my laptop, and ASUS Zenbook different responses and interactions as well as dialogue windows then on my desktop which has an Asus motherboard.
Both systems have the identical version of Windows 10 installed at the same configuration in kind. Of course the hardware is different but the laptop has the same type of integrated video, a Nvidia 1070 Titan, so does the desktop of course as a plug-in card.

Here is one example of the difference:
My settings menu on the desktop:
    Update KB5005033 fails with 0x800f0845-windows-setting-dialogue-window-desktop.png

My settings menu on the laptop:
    Update KB5005033 fails with 0x800f0845-windows-setting-dialogue-window-laptop.png

No matter what I try on either machine I cannot get it to appear in kind like on the other and vice versa. There is no Microsoft account I sign in (except of course the local login). On both systems there is no OneDrive installed configured, etc.

It happened one day a year or more ago, after one pushed update. Both machines have all the same updates with the exception of the desktop and the aforementioned issue with update uninstalling Internet Explorer.

    Oh! A Microsoft enthusiast answer...
First of all I don't have a chip on the shoulder. I'm just frustrated like the millions of users with all the don'ts and gimmicks and bugs etc. that Microsoft delivers. Just imagine if Windows 10 were a car you would have to rely on to go to work every day...

If it were my fault then A) there wouldn't be always updates all the time and B) not millions of question, forums, issues reported etc when you Google about an issue with Windows 10.
If Microsoft Windows 10 were so perfect few people would have any technical issues to ask on the Internet.

Lastly when I install the aforementioned update I can see how it deletes the entries in the registry and deletes files in the folder containing Internet Explorer!
2 other people, one of them by far more qualified and an expert, have witnessed it and try to figure out where it gets the instruction from to do that and have nothing found on my system that would indicate such.

Remember 737 Max MCAS system? Even the best of the best of Boeing engineers couldn't figure this one out and all had to get grounded for quite some time! (Maybe it was Microsoft software...)

So if I have a chip on my shoulder, then it is the endless frustrations with products from Microsoft. And trust me I know what I'm talking about, I was in IT , I lost clients courtesy Windows 98 the endless crashes etc. et al. I know I'm not alone with the frustrations because if there weren't any, then this forum would be quite empty...

In some cases such an error can be related to specific drivers on your system, or software which uses specific drivers.

    Example:
Most updates no longer install - tried many things. Help please!

Note the use of log files, the error number from attempting an upgrade or in-place upgrade.

3rd party tools and specific configurations can cause difficulty.

If you care to search the forum for 0x800f0845 you will find more threads which may suggest a way forward.
Thanks, will have a look at it.

Software is software, and operating systems like anything else are not perfect. And with something like Windows, you operate in an environment where there are tons of different manufacturers who make parts and supply drivers for their hardware that need to operate and coexist with everything else you may have. If things were locked down more, say like Apple, and MS made the hardware and only offered a handful of configurations, we might have something a little more akin to your car analogy.

If you get a few moments though, can you please provide us some links to others who are having this same problem with IE 11 being uninstalled from their machines with this update? Because that is what I am not finding on my own. I truly believe something did happen on your machine, but I'm not finding corroborating evidence on the web that this update has been uninstalling IE11 from other machines. I've tested it, and cannot duplicate it. And I've scoured and cannot find anybody discussing this, yet you seem to feel it's impacting millions. Help us out here!

I will look into this when I find the time as this is a work machine and I need to get work done and not troubleshoot Windows 10 every other day.
I agree with your Apple comparison. I might switch soon.
I don't need or want an OS I have babysit and is convoluted and buggy like the old space shuttle. (just look at an shuttle cockpit image! A "hardware" version of Windows 10...)

We all know the company philosophy of "Intuit"; "In to it" getting every year into your wallet for a pointless empty update.
On the web there is a lot about QuickBooks suddenly not starting and stating that it needs at least IE 6.0. Many have encountered this from version 2012 apparently all the way to version 2021 (!!!)
I guess Intuit is not so "intuit" when it comes to make matters current; no revenue...
(Like in the beginning of Windows 10 my Quickbook 2014 would pop up with the message: This version of Quickbooks is not compatible with Windows 10.... Yeah right!
Eventually they realized their marketing sell-another-version did go well and suddenly it worked in windows 10. I'm still using it.
Same with using updated versions of excel for report exports.

My guess is something gets misinterpreted just like i.E. uninstaller software does when you run it in aggressive mode; it lists often files and/or registry entries irrelevant to the app one wants to uninstall.

Lastly, to come back to the car metaphor: would you want a car that suddenly needs specific tires, runs only on a particular brand gas and can be only driven on approved roads and to add more fun every other day has another issue of a garden variety.
Won't start because it's windy today....

"I need a car that always starts and I can drive where I need to go without any drama or issues!"

I would pick up a used MacBook sometime and give yourself a little time to play with it and see what you think. I have a MacBook Pro and it's been solid, bought it in 2014. However, I don't love using it. I don't find it very intuitive. And when it was time to buy another machine, I bought a desktop PC running Windows.
