    Manual Update Possible?

I just checked my desktop computer. The Windows Update shows 2 Updates. One says STATUS: Pending Install. The other says STATUS: Installation 100%.

Its been sitting like this for 2 days. Anyway to get it to install when I want it? Like "press here to install now" button?

The installed update may be waiting for a restart to finish the update.
    Restart the computer.

Sorry. That comment was sarcasm. Been having a bad day. Desktop has been on and off at least 5 times in 2 days. No notice when powering down, that update is available.

Also have not gotten a "box" in the middle of the screen telling me an update requires a re-boot.

    Try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    If still problems:
Despite two forum prompts when you created this thread we don't know your Windows version number.
(Those prompts are so we don't have to keep asking).

Please post a screenshot of your Update History

Yes, a manual update is possible.

    Hi milford

On more than one occasion I've observed repeated failures while trying to install a new update. I spend a bit of time researching to see if others had the same experience and to make certain I didn't require a different update to be installed prior.

If I can't identify anything unusual, I have just downloaded the update from the Microsoft Update Catalogue, install and move along.

Just use caution when selecting the update version, create a restore point, sometimes I will create a Macrium Reflect Free image, and good to go.

I've never had this process fail yet.

Having an abundant appreciation for sarcasm, I often find it difficult to gauge in a textual format. I would have had a great laugh after reading your post if you had added a suitable emoticon or even added (sarcasm) or (he said sarcastically), anything of the sort.

I'm just doing my part to promote sarcasm in general.

The .bat file worked. Was nervous after reading about it.
Running it gave me a warning box with a "close" and "run anyway" option. I ran it and it stopped several processes and deleted several hundred "update/log files". Then I re-booted and checked Updates. I had 2 Updates at 0% install and 1 Pending install.
Couple seconds and 1 Update went from 0% to 100%. Then the 2021-08 update started. Slowly. It made to 73% in 30 minutes. Then 74%, 10 minutes later. Went to do something else, and when I came back, I had the Update box showing. I re-booted, it installed, and it finished.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
