KB5005033 always errors (0x8007000d), tried everything, log included

This is what I'm trying to install

    2021-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5005033)

To summarize, I tried literally every fix online. Although for one fix where I had to register some DLL's and rename a Cab folder, I couldn't rename the folder and some of the DLL's weren't found. I also tried uninstalling Windows Mixed Reality since I have a VR headset that requires it and I also tried downloading the update from Microsoft's catalog and manually installing, neither worked.

    I'm using Windows 10 Pro Version 20H2 (Build 19042.631)

Hi, you could try an in-place upgrade repair install (tutorial available) which keeps all progs and data.

    But you've
    tried literally every fix online.
    - so you will already have tried that.

Neglected to mention in this thread that's the only solution I haven't tried as I can't afford to lose any files, but you've made it clear it won't affect my programs or files so I'll give it a shot.

Edit - Looks like I don't have KB4586853 for build 19042.662 installed which is required for a in-line repair 'refresh' according to this guide. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    Thank you for replying.

You have build 20H2, so see the tutorial on how to download an iso file for an older build.

Note: A cautious person would ensure they have a current disk image- and would already be using disk imaging as is endlessly recommended by tenforums members.

Check at least 30Gb free on C:
Rt click iso, click Mount (available if iso not reassociated)
    Open new drive letter created.
    Double click setup.exe
