    Yes you can block any update you want with Windows Automatic Update Manager.

    Option 7

    I have never ever had to use that tool.

    OK,
    I read it,
    and Option #7 - WAU Manager, is replacing the regular Windows Update mechanism.
    It is useful, for many other things and not just te specific problem I mentioned.

    But I wonder,
    If I do not use something like WAU Manager, and continue use the built-in Windows Update program,
    is there maybe some Registry Key, that prevents Windows Update from downloading and installing the "Malicious Software Removal Tool" Updates?

    I don't need it..

    Back in Windows XP/7, Windows Update had Checkboxes, where you - the user, have a control over what will be installed/updated..

    With this attached batch script, you can disable Malicious Software Removal Tool from installing.

    Yes. You can disable its updates. I have done so on several computers without any side-effects.

    Do note that this article also describes how you can uninstall MRT as well.

    The tool itself remains on the computer unless you run the uninstall procedure [C:\Windows\System32\MRT.exe & C:\Windows\System32\MRT-KB890830.exe] but it never does anything unless you deliberately run it so disabling its updates is sufficient.

    My MRT files are 2018/2019 versions, reflecting when I disabled their updates.
    - I don't mind their existence but I've just this moment deleted them anyway & I then repeated the uninstall procedure when I remembered about it.
    - I assume that a 2018/9 Version update put them back on the computer but I had not noticed them at all until I was checking whilst writing this post.

    There are also two .dll files in the same folder that I have not removed & the uninstall procedure also leaves them alone. They are .Net dlls and I do not know if they are related to MRT or not.
    mrt_map.dll
    mrt100.dll

    Hello @spaceman5,

    @FreeBooters BAT Script is one that I have used and is an excellent All-In-One option that allows you to Disable or Allow the Malicious Software Removal Tool From Installing, all from ONE file.

    I use the Winaero REG File because it is easier for me as I run a Post-Installation Script whenever I need to.

    Here are the two Winaero REG Files as when I just tried to look on their site it was taking forever to load [ probably my end ], so I thought that I would post them for you . . .

    Disable Malicious Software Removal Tool From Installing
    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT]
    "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001

    Undo Disable Malicious Software Removal Tool From Installing
    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT]
    "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=-

    I hope this helps.

    The WinAero article also describes uninstalling MRT.
    [I've just altered my first post to reflect this]

    All the best,
