How do heck do you disable Windows Update?

I am so pissed off with Microsoft. And before you start going off telling me the importance of updates, yes, I have heard them all. How important the updates are. Basically it means the Microsoft Operating System at its core is so rubbish, that it has to update all the time. Which basically means at no point in time is the the Windows OS actually good. No in fact, if we are having to update so many times, it means it can never be even close to good, because there is always some vulnerability that a malicious attacker can exploit, or some backdoor to upload a virus into the system, that we are stuck in this perpetual need to update, update and update. So sick of it.

Normally on my laptop, the updates are enabled, but I am asking this for my father's laptop which doesn't have a lot of space, and the updates just fcks up that HDD space. I want it to stop!

Microsoft seems to a have DELIBERATELY made it impossible to stop the updates completely. The mofos always find a way to keep updating. The operating system should explicitly ask for MY PERMISSION, if I want it updated or not.

So how I stopped this crap from forcing an update down my throat? This is like update rape!

Even if something is considered for one's own good, you can not force people if they don't want.

To add, at some time ago there was a statement that some updates would be pushed regardless of a User's settings if deemed critical. [Wish I had saved the page.]

This is a very good one i'm using > Windows Update Blocker v1.6
It does not even require installation and easy to use which suit old folk.

Easily for years. I used Sledgehammer, various other free utilities including that in the tutorial above.

    Another tutorial:
Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update

All you have to do is to search the Tutorial section or search tenforums for the many many many many many times this has been discussed.

The latest version has a simple GUI. Give it a try.

If it does not work, lodge a complaint against the author.

Step 1: Anyone with W10 Home switch to Pro.

Step 2: Follow the guide at the link above in Brink's response and go down the Group Policy Editor choice. Make sure you enable TWO items:

Go to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update

Once there Enable TWO items. Some sets of instructions forget the "no auto-restart one." You don't want to be running some large video rendering project and wake up to find your computer has rebooted.

    1. Enable the item named "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations"

    2. Enable item "Configure Automatic Updates" then set Configure automatic updating to option 2.

That's only 'Notify' and whilst a very useful option, will not disable WU completely - consider end of service life issues.
