I have tried running the Win 10 install as a refresh and it gets either the 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 or 0xC1900101 - 0x30017 error - it abends on restart. Any help would be very much appreciated. Kindest regards.

    19043.928 is already 21H1.
What is the KB number of the update being attempted?

If you haven't tried it already, you could try an In-Place upgrade. Took about 40 mins on my computer...

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

This will fix Windows problems. If after an In-Place Upgrade, the monthly updates still don't work...
Then it would have to be some other cause besides Windows... like 3rd party programs, drivers, etc.

Thanks for the thoughts. It is a new computer. No Virus program loaded yet and as I mentioned I have already done that. I have run Windows as an in place upgrade and it abends, blue screens on the restart and wonderful WIndows removes the upgrade - this is what I wrote, ==> I have tried running the Win 10 install as a refresh and it gets either the 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 or 0xC1900101 - 0x30017 error - it abends on restart. Blue screens / abends from poor programming as I see it. All I have loaded is MS Office Pro 2019 - everything else is on hold pending fixing this

Well, you could always try blocking the updates.

    Hi, see
How to delete pending updates on Windows 10 • Pureinfotech
and this tutorial should also achieve the same:

    more:
How to delete Downloaded, Failed & Pending Windows Updates

    0xC1900101 - 0x20017
    - typical of a driver-related problem

News thread on update - no similar comments:

This is a preview update, and you have Pro- so why not use group policy (gpedit.msc) to block preview updates?

Great ideas and thoughts. I deleted the files per the tutorial

Great ideas and thoughts. I deleted the files per the tutorial and the pending disaster is fixed. If the 0xC1900101 - 0x2/30017 errors are caused by drivers, how do I find the driver(s) issues? I talked with MSI Tech Support and they knew of no issues? My pending disaster is fixed and I have stopped auto updates so I should be good. The interesting thing is that I have almost the same computer (same MB) running my recording studio and I have no problems like this at all?????? Thoughts, ideas and great ideas and help from you guys. Kindest regards. Stu

Hi, as the error occurred when you attempted - I assume- an in-place upgrade repair install, you could run
    setupdiag.exe
free from MS to analyse your upgrade log files. This attempts to match against known cases.

The driver in question could be related to some installed program, perhaps an older version, or particular hardware.

Otherwise you would in general remove all possible 3rd party security software and disconnect any unnecessary devices.

You could also inspect the various upgrade log files.
