    Problem with updates

I have just checked my main desktop for updates and downloaded them and installed them. The machine has restarted but is stuck on Windows is configuring your machine don't turn it off.
After half an hour of this I reset the computer but the same process keeps happening.

Any ideas on what to do please?

If it were me... I'd restore from a backup, then do an In-Place Upgrade to 21H1.
Starting in January 2021, Microsoft fixed a lot of problems with Windows Update.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Thanks for the reply mate but I haven't got a backup it is all on the secondary drive.
The only thing I can think of what to do is contact Microsoft and see what they suggest.

Other wise I might have to do a clean install.

Well... try letting it sit over night. See if it ever finishes.
I've seen some posts where it took quite a while for some folk on some comps, but in the end... it completed.

Ok mate I will try that as there were three cumulative updates that were downloaded otherwise I will just have to reinstall from the original DVD I bought which I guess will take a lot of updating and reinstalling my usual apps etc eh??

Actually that machine is running 21H2 version whereas all my other machines are running 21H1????

21H2 is an Insider build... or do you in fact mean 20H2?

    .
It is very strongly recommended that you be patient- some updates take a little time to be applied, whilst for a few people some upgrades can even take hours. Interrupting this can give you much bigger problems.

You've been around for a while on tenforums, so you must have seen the many many many endless recommendations to use disk imaging regularly and routinely which can much reduce the need to perform clean installs, give you a recovery chance without seeking technical help from others, and a full backup.

otherwise I will just have to reinstall from the original DVD I bought
I bet that's an old build. If so why would you do that? Create a current bootable flash drive of 21H1 directly using MS's media creation tool. For free - bar the cost of the drive.
