    KB5004237 will not install!

Three out of my four computers have installed KB5004237 without any problems - the remaining one stalls at 20%, and throws up error 0x800f081f.
I have run sfc + dism + the update trouble-shooter to no avail.
It would seem that I am missing certain data/ previous update from what I can gather. Is this a known problem? and is there a starting point for me to try.
Windows update suggests that I am up to date.
    Any help appreciated - thanks.

Hi, that error number has been resolved by performing an in-place upgrade repair install on a number of past occasions.

If you care to search tenforums for that number, you may find another approach- I think there was such a post on one such thread.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Thanks to you both for your input - decided to do an in place upgrade.
All went well, with the expected guide working all the way through to install. Pushed 'go' and off we went.
Shortly after full stop - on screen message appeared to say installation had failed.

    "0x8007025D - 0x2000c
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during apply image operation"

    Your further thoughts appreciated
    Thanks

I would remake the ISO image from scratch and try again.

The only other solution, for some, was to update the BIOS. I would think that wouldn't apply to you because you're already on .1083

Hi, please run setupdiag.exe (free from MS) and post the result.
This attempts to match known cases.

What is the make and model of the target PC?
What security software is in use?
How much free space is there on C:?

The failure occurred during the second phase:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...upgrade-errors

However the error number is not given in the MS look-up tables. This advice is given:
Fix Windows Update Error Code 0x8007025D-0x2000C

Thanks everyone for your time and interest.
Tried again from the starting point.
This time, it did install all the way through until I got a message to say that the disk could not be verified. It continued to install, but eventually indicated that all changes would be reverted, and proceeded to take me back to square one.

Then tried with a usb, went through all the motions (no verification message) - reached the end, and once again the changes were negated and back we went to square one.

    Hi everyone
back again, having got so frustrated annoyed that I was not making progress despite you good help. I just got brain fog.
Switched off and 'gave up' for the time being and used other computers.

Had a brainwave today - I had done a clone disk just before my PC started to give problems. Installed this, and proceeded to do all updates, which went ahead without any problems. Th clone disk is a sata hard drive. The problem update (KB5004237) installed, but took a hell of a time stopping at 20% / 44% / 74% - but got there in the end.
The removed disk is a SSD, so wish to now do another clone and then re-install the SSD.
I know this is but a workaround, and will never know what the problem/answer was/is.
Rather than just leave the matter there, I wanted to let you know that your kind thoughts were appreciated.
    Thanks everyone
    C
