Should I be expecting to have problems again tomorrow?

The only problem is patience. Leave your machine and let it get on with the job.

Things like a Cumulative update and .NET Framework updates take a long time. They have a lot of work to do. Before and after you do the Restart.

That has been the case for many years. The recent ones were the same, no different.
One thing that I noticed, is that last month's update took a whole lot longer than any other Patch Tuesday update that I remember. So, you don't think that it's anything to be worried about then? Especially this month assuming we won't have another .NET Framework update?

We cannot predict that. Simply wait to see what happens. If there is a problem, we can address the problem at that time.

If it is simply a matter of being slow to apply the update, there may not be a lot that can be done for that.

How can I tell if it's simply being slow and not worth writing a post about?

    I open Task Manager.

If the Performance tab shows a lot of disk and/or CPU activity and the Details tab shows TiWorker.exe working hard, then I know it's busy getting on with the update and there's nothing to worry about - even if the status in Windows Update appears to have stalled.
