    Windows 10 Update error 0x800F0922 with KB5003637

For some pre-context, this started after I uninstalled KB5003637 and a feature update. I don't remember the details of the feature update I removed.

My windows version is 20H2 build 19042.985

As the title states, trying to perform windows updates to get Windows back up to date results in unable to update, removing changes after it gets to around 94% after the reboot with error code 0x800F0922. Things I've tried so far to remediate the problem in no particular order:

    • SFC Scan
    • DISM image restore
    • DISM image restore with a known clean source wim file
    • Windows Update auto troubleshooting
    • Resetting Windows Update with this update reset batch script

After each of those things, the error persists. I don't want to do a clean re-install because getting everything set back up again would be way too much work. I have things in place like ssh session configs, development environments etc and a bunch of other things that would be a pain to have to setup again to get my environment back to a workable state. If doing an in-place upgrade from a 20H2 iso would keep everything as it currently is an resolve the problem without me having to restore any settings, programs, configs etc and solve my problem I'd be willing to give that a shot.

There are similar threads about that update failing.

Yes, try an in-place upgrade repair- you'll need a 20H2 iso file - freely downloadable- see tutorial on downloading a Win 10 iso file.

I read that thread. I wanted to make sure that the problem wasn't due to some kind of user corruption that an in-place upgrade would not fix and that I wouldn't have to re-setup my environment after (i.e. it only works on the registry/windows folder)
