WU 2021-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version bad after effects

    Hi,

Before I Installed 2021-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5003637) yesterday, my desktop toolbar looked like this

    Attachment 336657

Afterwords, a big empty space appeared. Blank, wasted space.

    Attachment 336658

I uninstalled KB5003637, and my toolbar returned to normal. I then reinstalled it KB5003637, and the blank space returned. Can anyone else confirm this, and do we have a fix?

Also, how do I stop Windows to stop nagging me to add a Windows Hello pin?

Hi, many times with the preview build and now this one comments have been made about effects on the system tray area.

Whilst I can't see the new News and Interests icon there, perhaps because of your double height taskbar? problems have been caused when this is hidden. I don't know if that's related to your particular scenario.

Try right clicking the taskbar, look for News and Interests.

If I uninstall that update, the problem I have if I disable News and Interests similarly disapears.

You could consider uninstalling and hiding (blocking) that update in the hope the MS fixes this by next update.

Some suggest it's related to scaling > 100%

    Hi dalchina,

Thanks, as usual, for pointing me in the right direction. Here's what actually takes place. Another ill conceived MIcrosoft scenario, as explained at The Windows Club

News and Interests not showing or missing in Windows 10

Enable or Disable News and Interests on Taskbar in Windows 10

It turns out that, aside from all the other details mentioned there, the News and Interests button itself will only appear if your taskbar is located on the bottom of the desktop, but when the taskbar is on the top, if the button is not disabled, like mine, the blank space that the button would otherwise occupy, remains.

Furthermore, the News and Interests desktop taskbar context menu entry is only displayed if your taskbar is located on the bottom of the desktop.

    Taskbar on the top

    Attachment 336768

    Taskbar on the bottom

    Attachment 336769

So, if you're operating from the top position, you cannot interact with News and Interest, which means you cannot disable it,

Once you move the taskbar to the bottom, you can disable it thru the context menu, the blank space disappears, and then move the taskbar back to the top. No more blank space with the taskbar at the top

Right click the icon and use the option to disable it + turn off 'hover'. Tutorial available with more options.

Some who disable the icon find it affects they system tray. Widely reported.

Before you do, click the ... at the top and send MS feedback about it.

I have another issue in the systray area. I may be wrong, but I think it may have been occurring shortly before the latest WU that caused the News and Interests button problem, or perhaps it's all part of the same changes implemented in the latest WU.

Up until lately, when I would have multiple icons in my desktop toolbar taskbar notification area, they would be vertically stacked, one on top of another. But now, a single icon occupies the entire vertical space. If you look closely at the mouse hover area in the image, you can see the highlighted icon extending from the top to the bottom of the toolbar. Annoying inconvenience.

BTW, this happens regardless of whether the toolbar is located on the top or the bottom.

Also, when that initially began to happen, I also could not display more that one icon in that area. If I tried to put another icon there, it would replace the original one, forcing it into the systray. But, for some unexplained reason, that stopped, but then the second behavior I described above started. Weird.

Hi, if you mean it used to look like this:
WU 2021-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version bad after effects-untitled.png
    - then as you can see, N&I is present, icon only, hover off- and Display scaling is 125%.
    19043.1052 - which might suggest it's not a build-specific issue.

Your clock has a different format - and I get the impression the font looks larger somehow.

My best scaling is 156, but I just tried it at 125, and I still get that same effect.

    True.

Is there anyone out there experiencing what I see?

One other thing. When I go to "Taskbar settings" > "Select which icons appear on the taskbar", those settings sometimes change on their own.

    Thank you for your reply.

Are you perhaps using a substitute clock program?
    E.g.

    System clock font …size increase?
