Windows 10 Update Woke Me Up At Midnight. Argh!

    20H2

I keep a laptop on a shelf right next to my bed, just inches from my face.

At exactly midnight last night I was woken by a bright blue light in my face.

Apparently I forgot to shut down my laptop at bedtime. Perhaps I only put it to sleep, instead of completely shutting it down.

I reached over to turn it off, but on the screen was a warning to not shut down my computer.

I'm assuming I was the victim of a peremptory Windows 10 update. Is there a setting that will tell Windows to ask my permission before updating?

Hi, from the Tutorial section, which you are encouraged to browse and search:

Pause Updates or Resume Updates for Windows Update in Windows 10

    Disable WU:
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10

As you have Home, apparently, you have more limited control
Otherwise you can use a 3rd party utiltity and disable WU and take full personal control.

(amended after Matthew Wai's test below)

I confirm that metered connections cannot inhibit KB4023057, which will probably override or undo any settings for controlling Windows Update.
